Ok maybe im just zonin out a bit too much, but about the registration activation process and all that.. What will we do in say 10 years if the support of the maschine has dropped, our computers crashed, and we need to reinstall it (and update it!)? It was a bitch getting it to work on both my home computer and the studio (internet free) computer, mainly cause i forgot minor details and mixed up stuff so i guess i have myself to blame.. but in 10 years! i can really see myself sticking with it for a heck-a-long time! my precious...

Well, here's hoping that they never stop supporting the Maschine :p But, if they do stop supporting it - hopefully they will release a patch to remove the DRM/Registration from the software.

in 10 years we'll all be using something that looks like the mpk 61 from NI... pads and keys and it's a full workstation running off of your computer :)

    just sayin ;)

    man i hope not.

i have a korg kontrol 49 with pads and keys and i dread using it.

maschine sits nicely on my desk and having it seperate from a keyboard is one of the main reasons i bought it.

i just want to drum out some drums, i dont want to be tapping on the side of a keyboard, i want to have my maschien sitting right dead centre in front of me,

a keyboard placed near by for keys.

im actually thinking about getting a small 25 key set up to sit on my desk.

any 1 have the nano keyboard or the new akai mini keyboard?

could some one take a pic of placed under maschine?

I feel you...well...it will be detachable then

I have maschine and a 25 key next to it right now and I love it lol.

Though...I may upgrade to a larger keyboard and still have maschine off to the side, sorta how I used to rock the mpc

My comment was more about the progression of everyting running in an environment together than it was about the form factor

    :)

    it's coming...you've all been warned....

of course I really have no idea but it would be sick and the groundwork is there

already replacing the mpc...next, NI replaces the fantom, triton, and motif market :)

Yeah i have maschine front and centre and a keyboard to the left on one of these stands; http://www.djmmusic.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=KYS21-BK

It sits flush against my desk so everything is within reach. Could also be used as a stand for maschine or other gear but you'd have to put something across the gap in the middle.
    ---
@saintjoe, the stand i got is perfect; maschine on the desk, keyboard to the side and laptop sat between them. It's like giving your desk an extension. :)

As long as future generations of Maschine will open my current files I will be a happy camper! I will buy the new updated hardware or software. It's such a small price to pay for tools of the trade ( a lot better than job site radios, radial saws, and nail gunz).

I use an Odyssey DJ table for my setup since I take it out live. From left to right:

Front- APC40, Maschine, Remote SL Compact49
    Back- LG 20" LCD, 12" G4, 13" Macbook Pro

My pod pro and Focusrite Pro40 live in a rack under the table.

The original poster's question is quite valid, and those of you either dismissing his concerns as "not a big deal" or making fun of him should seriously reconsider your lighthearted treatment of an important issue.

There are a lot of controller/equipment manufacturers who have either gone out of business or let their products wither on the vine, leaving the end-user hanging out to dry. Never ever just assume that a company will be around forever-and-ever-amen. There's no guarantee.

$600 is a lot of money for any controller, even one that has some brains and/or contains some sounds. Native Instruments cannot guarantee that they'll be in business forever, but they could (and should) give some reassurance about their plans in the event that the worst should happen.

And as customers, we all should take this issue more seriously.

Unless you're made of money; in which case...can I have some of yours?

who expects to still get support for a product 10 years into the future? I don't, products have a support life cycle, then it's on to the next thing.

That doesn't mean we won't still be able to use it, but it also means there should be things that are far more advanced 10 years from now.

10 years ago, nothing like Maschine existed...it was all about the mpc. Now many mpc models are no longer supported, yet they still work and are still being used.

It's just part of the game, product support comes and goes....nothing is supported forever, rarely is one product supported for 10 years anymore. Unless it's the only product a company makes.

funny you mentioned 10 years saintjoe, but that is the average life expectancy of any appliance, i worked for years in the hvac business and products over 10 years were encouraged to be replaced not repaired

NI's stated on numerous occasions that if they go out of business, they'll release permanent unlock codes.

This is certainly a good start. But at the risk of sounding pessimistic (which by nature I'm not), I already see a loophole.

Company A promises on a stack of bibles... (this is the "good start" I speak of)
    But then...
    Company B buys Company A
Company B sets new rules (or disregards prior promises)
    Company B drops support
Customer is left blowing in the wind

    ...just sayin'...

That said, I'm still considering a Maschine. But it's an "eyes-wide-open" consideration.

As always, the best policy is Caveat Emptor!

Yes I agree with saint Joe, that even if it doesn't have support in the future you can still use it. I know people still using logic 5 (before it went to mac only). I still use windows xp just because everything works good for me. If nothing else just make sure you keep an extra computer around that is compatible.
