Open Stylus RMX and combine some parts from all my libraries until it feels alright :D
Then drag´n drop into the DAW or Maschine.

when doing pop music do u start with drums of the sample?

lotta hip hop produces go with drums first; although some start with the main sample or chord progression.

    I suppose it dont matter

@skinswashdc - since you started this thread, why don't you enlighten us as to your [2016] production process ? I mean you start all these threads around here endorsing everything NI, but I hardly ever see you post anything about your personal workflows and/or what you think NI could do to improve. Everything can't be perfect. It just seems you could be a greater asset to this community if you threw in some of your own constructive criticisms and/or personal experiences in what you do with your NI products, and more importantly what you don't like about them or how NI could improve.

I regard Skins as the "DJ" of the forums. This is just his radio show 808.1 - Phone in now!

    Open Cubase 8.5
Open Maschine 2.5 as vst in Cubase doing this http://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-2-update-recording-midi-into-ableton-live-9/
Program a beat on Maschine but recording midi in Cubase
Complete the rest of the song in Cubase
Check NI website and verify that the newest update does nothing for Daw Intergration
Look at Maschine and wonder how I can get for a cira 2009 MK1 controller and 20 expansions

It's more than looping up a sample and adding drums. If I do a sampled beat I like adding keys to it atleast. Some of us, who are not stuck in the past with a sound that was hot 10 years or more ago, are easily influenced by today's music or different genre's of music. I'm sure you know that because I can tell you like Jay Dilla/Pete Rock. I've passed that phase when in my early 20's, and learned then I needed to get better on the keys and produce original music. But it's important to me to be versatile and continue to be open to different kinds of music. I don't want to talk with my friends, and the only thing I talk about is boom bap.

Do you DJ? I see you have a traktor Z1 in your set-up.

Well I'm glad you asked that question listener...

I find the Z1 sensational as an extra external ASIO interface and super for playback of youtube and music, generally old and outdated "classic" stuff that people would not regard as modern, cool or trendy. Doing it that way avoids conflicting my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 (i.e. I can play multiple sample rates at the same time).

it doesn't go anywhere near my "production" workflow unless I need an extra knob to twiddle after hours. Sometimes I have been known to use Traktor at parties round my place but it's fairly rare (I use JRiver media centre mostly, and my skills are generally more to do with drinking beer rather than attempt to sync records together).

Yo yo daddyo big up. Wheels of steel rock.
You have been listening to the Maschine forums, now a word from our sponsors.

Z2 mixer. Maschine studio as one deck. Technics 1200 as second deck either as track deck or live input in traktor. Easy to sample into maschine.

How do you use maschine studio in standalone and with sonar? What's your process in the pre-production phase?

I only use Maschine Studio as a MIDI controller right now. Maschine does not work right now for writing songs of any depth, it just ends up as one big loop unless you waste a lot of time dragging stuff into the DAW over and over again. It's a mess. So I mainly use Geist as a plugin in Sonar (Geist 2 sadly not lived up to the mark so far either, great workflow, just too buggy).
