Actually my process isn't the same with the purchase of the Jam recently. I have maschine jam now . So things are a little different since I added that to use with my maschine studio and komplete kontrol S 61. Great workflow with all three. Will explain later how I use them together. Still learning Maschine Jam.

    Cool thread.
    1. open Ableton Live 9
    2. eventually plug Push 2
    3. select a drum kit with Maschine VST using Audiomodder bridge and lay down some basic rhythm, using mouse or step sequencer. Because yes, Maschine kits are excellent, and I don't want to spend my time designing sound in the beginning, it kills creativity.
    4. start with a bass (usually Korg Polysix VST), record, re record, re re record until I find a nice progression.
    5. select or design a lead / piano / pluck sound, something that will sound medium / high compared to the bass. Use Push 2 or a keyboard to compose it.
    6. When I find the melody that suits me, I then usually try different variations : offset the pattern to a different start/stop position, add some arp, manually change notes velocity, invert it etc... Can really open up possibilities and generate ideas.
    7. At that point, I'm still using the session view and I have also added other instruments (chords, bells, whatever might enrich the basic elements...). I have lots of clips available, I play with them, try to find scenes that can help build the song and design a simple structure (intro / verse / chorus / drop etc...)
    8. At some point, I record the "song" to build a basic structure and switch to the arrangement view.
    9. Then, I restructure things, record new clips, remove some of them, add automation, transitions, redesign sounds etc... I usually never come back to the session view.
    10. I tend to mix during the process, most of the time my primary goal is to use instruments that don't cover each other, it simplifies the problem.
    11. [... time spent mixing, recording, deleting, arranging ...]
    12. finally, after maybe 15 to 20 hours my song is "finished". By finish, I mean I know it can be better, but probably not that much given my personal limitations so I decide to stop working on it and release on Soundcloud.

I got an amazing deal on the Z2 otherwise I would use a NI audio interface with a Rane 57. I really wish maschine would let me use multiple audio interfaces simultaneously.

I had a client session on Saturday with no advance on what they were doing. Turned out to be a house styled tune and I needed a quick beat so I grabbed Stylus and set a loop to build with. They liked what they heard and layered tracks and vocals but all I could hear was how cheesy Stylus sounds. After they left I dumped Stylus beats and redid them with Maschine using the convoluted method for recording in a daw mentioned earlier. Point is, to me, Maschine has the best sounds and quickest go to library of anything out there.. Its just so damned slow to use in a daw.

I'm still holding out hope that NI will made daw integration happen but it still isnt something I'd pull out in from of a client. If we get to Maschine 3.0 and there's no DAW MODE, I'll sell ;especially if a substitue 9like an updated Stylus) that even has 80% of Maschines sound quality and features.

    1 open Ableton Live
2 load pre-racked Maschine VST drum kits with all MIDI ins and audio outputs set
3 sequence and arrange everything in Ableton with Push2
    4 completely ignore Maschine's sequencer
    5
