Whats the customizability of Kompletes menu displays like?

    Hi
Im very close to buying one of these but I have a few questions the guys in my local store could not answer. Also I have searched through this forum and could not find these questions or answers.

Say I want to find a bass patch, and Komplete is going to show me 4327 bass patches, can I make it display my custom folder with only the patches I will use? Can I create my own folder structure or will I need to tag all the sounds I want so they'll show up in certain search's? This whole set up seems good as long as you can move through the vast libraries in your own way.

Also could someone tell me a little about mapping different instruments to different sections of the keyboard? Am I to understand that it is relativity easy to have say 3 instruments spread across the keyboard? Say an octave of Massive bass, 2 octaves of Kontact keys and an octave of pads. If so would it be easy to switch the octave of pads to a different preset with out stopping a performance?

    Any info is much appreciated...

So after reading users wishlists on here I gather you can't do any of the things I mentioned......Which seems crazy. Definitely nothing to justify its price compared to other controllers. It looks like the Nektar p4 will be a better idea since I use Massive for 90% of my synth patches.

If you are using Massive much of the time then you should be tagging your sounds as you create them, then you can use the tag system in Kontrol to narrow down to just the basses you want. It does not use a folder based system, which is too crude, but does also recognise banks so you could also put them in specific banks. You would not be able to do any of that with a Nektar P4.

You can mark sounds as favourites and the browser is devided in stock content and user content.

PS: The browser also has a keyword search.

Regarding the keyboard split ... don't know so far. It's possible in MIDI mode, so I expect it also to be possible in Komplete itself... I'm pretty new to Komplete and it's sooo huge ... a lot to learn.

PS: Here's a video about keyboard split in Kontakt ... it should work similar in Komplete's other instruments:

Sorry that's wrong, you can't do splits in Komplete or the other instruments - only in Kontakt. Also you can't mark anything as a favourite in the Komplete browser yet either although you can in Massive itself.

Absynth also has favourites. In Komplete it might be a workaround to use snapshots to create user content, isn't it?

Well yes, and FM8 for that matter, but you were referring to being able to do it in the Komplete browser, you can't - not yet at least - and the OP seems mainly interested in Massive. Not sure what you mean by snapshots?

Snapshots are instrument presets, that you can save and load again later. They allow saving of customizations of instrument settings.

I read that yesterday in the PDF manual ... sorry, I'm a Komplete beginner and didn't test it out myself so far.

That is referring to Kontakt (or possibly Reaktor) snapshots, not something the Komplete browser can do.

Yep, it's an instrument feature, not a browser feature. I'm not sure, if every instrument has the snapshot feature or only Kontakt, but if not, there should be the favorites feature instead like in Absynth, no?

But the browser has a user content section, if I remember it correctly. Shouldn't that be useful here?

    Hi
Thanks for your replies. It seems so un-intuitive that these features are not included. They seem like the main things that would draw people to this, being able to use it as a live instrument instead of hosting everything in a DAW. Reading these and other forums seems it might be linked to the over reach then discontinuation of Kore. Which sucks cause I always thought Kore was a great idea, I guess the features I want means I really wanted a Kore (that worked)

I am going to assume NI might have the intention of slowly adding these features to the program, making sure they're bug free at every stage. I have to ask myself if I can justify paying such a large premium for features that may or may not come, with out knowing any timeline. I now wish I could sit back 6 months and see how it plays out before buying a new controller but I need one now.

Understandable ... I had to make the same decision and found out, that I had to answer the following question for my decision, if I should buy or not:

1: Will Komplete 10 satisfy me that much, that it's worth getting the Kontrol S keyboard? Or will I use non-NI instruments more than 50% of the time? Will I need Ultimate or the standard bundle?
2: Which other MIDI keyboards are a good alternative and do they have aftertouch, etc. ? What do they cost? How much hassle is the configuration?
3: How much technical issues are to be expected? Will everything work without much hassle?

Well, I decided for Ultimate and the S49 and have no technical issues after switching to 96 kHz sample rate, which not only solved some weird latency issues after the Ultimate installation, but also delivers a sound quality, that most other VSTs I used before can't compete with.

So I didn't regret my decision and hope, that NI continues to improve the system. A favorite system in Kontrol is more than desireable.

If I would have the same issues, that some S61 users reported, I might have regretted it ... NI needs to fix that fast.
