as mentioned in another thread, SD keeps telling me, that "the file def could not be found" when loaded in a cubase sx2.01 song or when opening a song which already contains instances of SD. it works fine then though. it´s just a little annoying cos sx doesn´t finish loading a song until you press o.k. on this false alert. (that´s when i usually go to the loo or get another cup of coffee...;-)

    Similar problem here.

I just installed SD for OSX and now when I BOOT Logic 6.3.1, I get a warning that "def" could not be found. My Autoload has no instances of SD pre-loaded by the way.

o.k. it´s worked out. (together with the support):
the def.aif - file has to be in the SD folder, not in the presetsfolder within th SD folder. just move it one level higher, directly in the SD folder.
you then will have to trash the prefs in user/library/preferences. start SD once more in standalone mode, quit SD and now you´ll be able to run it in your host without any alerts.

    Thanks ninstrum!!

I had directed SD to use my old presets folder, so now I have copied the whole presets folder to the new SD folder in OSX Apps, moved the file as you said, and no problems.

    On with the show....

    still not working here

I'm using Cubase SX 1.06 on panther G4 MDD 876, and tried what you suggested with no luck, twice. I trashed all the prefs files, even for Cubase. Any ideas here? The constant can't find messages are driving me nuts. Thanks!

no idea. have you run the standalone version BEFORE running from cubase but after trashing the prefs?
try to log out and in again after trashing the prefs. then load the standalone first.

r u sure you didn´t mixed up the files? there are two def files but only one is called "def.aif".

if it still does not work try to repair disc permissions and the usual maintenance stuff...

    Hi,

As mentioned in the Sepktral readme you have to start Spektral first and choose the right presets directory before you use Spektral as plugin. You can easily check if you've choosen the right preset folder by clicking on the file option and then the folder button in the Spektral stand alone version. You should immediately see all preset folders. For the plugins it's necessary that it can find the def.sdb file, which default is present in the presets directory. Copying this file one level higher, as suggested here, means that you didn't choose the right presets directory.

To be able to set the right preset directory it's necessary to trash the two spektral preferences files in the folder:
    Users\(current user)\Library\Preferences\
    The files are named:
    com.native-instruments.Spektral Delay.plist
    and
    Spektral Delay.plist

Then start the Spektral stand alone and choose the right preset directory. Repeat this procedure if you didn't get it right the 1st time round.

    Have Fun, Hans Scholten

Well, so far NONE of the suggestions in this thread have worked for me, and, YES, I did it right the first time, Hans.

I DID get it right on my Mac running 10.2.8, but it won't work no matter what on this particular Mac running 10.3.

    Ugh.

Well, after trying some other things, what finally worked was moving the def.sdb file (not the def.aif file) out of the Presets directory and into the Spektral Delay folder, then, after trashing preferences, I chose the SD folder, NOT the Presets folder, upon launch, and lo and behold it works fine now, both stand alone and in Cubase.

Is there no end to the weirdness? The def.sdb file is in a different place (inside the presets folder) on my other Mac, and that's where it works over there.

Sometimes, I just shrug my shoulders at this NI stuff.

    The weirdness

No, there is no end to the weirdness. I'm installing the entire "NI Komplete" line, and with only a few exceptions, everything has some weird thing that makes me log on to the forum and search for answers. That's why I'm in this forum right now--I got the "file def" error.

So it's a nice thing the forums exist, but I'm really not very pleased with NI's Macintosh programmers. (Or with their website programmers, for that matter. The lack of helpful error messages in the online registration process has been as frustrating as some of the incomprehensible dialogue boxes during installation itself.)

I think if I had to use one word to describe my experience with NI, "frustrating" would be it.
