I really wish that NI would implement a feature to turn any component into a TRUE MONO or TRUE STEREO component.

I for one don't use the cab modeling or amp features. I use GR as an effects loop in my rig because I don't want to carry a boat load of pedals around. And it sucks having to use splits to merge stereo signal chains. Which doesn't equal a true mono signal path in my opinion (its a merged stereo signal). Right? And using just the left output after the signal has been processed into stereo isn't the same as true mono either. Right? I spent way too much money on my cab and amp and I love the sound of them. So why wouldn't I want to use them...They are part of my sound.

Maybe if NI would start to do some models the gear I use or plan to use in the future I would be happy going straight to the house board. But till then Ill be using GR as a digital pedal board in my effects loop.

SO PLEASE NI...Implement a feature to turn any component into a TRUE MONO or TRUE STEREO component.

It would make things easier for us guys that use GR as a pedal board. I know Im not the only one...

You know...I just want my pedals to be mono like they are in the real world...What guitar player ever used a stereo MXR Phase 90 in there pedal board...Iv never heard of such a thing...

176 views and no posts? Am I the only one who feels like a TRUE MONO signal path would be awesome...?

are you saying that you have a stereo input from the guitar/audio interface going into the processor?

Reason i ask is my signal going into GR4 is mono to start with-so i don't have to merge the outgoing signal.

this is mono right? -so i thought

in fact i've tried doing the opposite -print a stereo track (freeze) in my DAW -but the result is a mono track instead of stereo (which i was trying to achieve)
admittedly, i'm still learning how to use this software-i little at a time

btw-each effect has a stereo switch which i believe is in the mono position by default

Nope, I go in mono just like you. But if you use any component that splits the the mono signal into stereo, well...you now have a stereo signal. And most components do just that. If your not sure that your signal is mono or stereo just look at your output metering.

If your using GR as a plugin and you want stereo you have to insert it on a stereo track. Also, printing a track and freezing a track are two different things.

As far as I know there is no "stereo switch" on or in any component. But, I am still using GR3 so you might be right if in fact NI changed things. Can you confirm this with a screen shot of the "stereo switch".

I reference to freezing, When i record the result is a mono dry track (that's what i expect)-when i then freeze -it results as a mono "processed" track.

If i want a stereo track, i have to bounce the whole track with effects to a new track
not a big deal-like i've said still spending hours just noodling with this awesome sounding software-i'm creating a ton presets in the process-

have done only a little recording with it as of yet

back to your point-GR4 does indeed have a switch to allow a component to go from stereo to mono- although, i noticed last night that not all components have a switch

i can see why this would be important to you-being you're using this in an effect loop

maybe you should check out the demo-i'm interested to see if that would work out
being that i havent decided how or if i would implement GR for live use (not using a laptop presently)

off topic again- it seems most users go the route of using a full range amp/spkr-like a pa (allowing use of the stereo stuff)

or the other camp of using it such as yourself-personally i could do it the way you describe with my Twin using the fx loop
    thinking out loud here
