    hi all,
i have made all the various tweaks and changes to settings as per this and other websites, i was curious to know what latency others with similar specs to mine have achieved, i am able to get to 11.5ms without any major issues. any lower and i get the odd pop or crack. all of my tracks have been anaysed to reduce cpu load when cueing.
I think with my spec of m/c i should be able to go lower.
i have set my m/c using ni suggestions, i have tried gamebooster, i have run dpc latency checker which thanks to a bios update is now all green. would an xp os environment prove to be helpful?
i have no issues other than i think my latency is still abit on the high side.
    i would appreciate some feedback:p

I've set mine at 2ms and haven't run into problems so far.

The goal is not to get the setting as low as it can possibly get.

If your system works fine at 11.5 ms, then great (Most human ears won't notice a difference below 10 ms anyway...)

I would personally rather work at my mixing skills then waste time trying to tweak something that already works, but that's just me :)

Ah I see. I thought it was the other way around. Lower ms means better. So what happens if your latency is greater than 12ms? Is that where the dropout occurs?

I have now set it to 6ms and will practice this Saturday and see how it goes.

Lower latency is better because your software will be more responsive. However it will make your computer work much harder. If you set it too low your computer won't be able to keep up and you will get dropouts etc. You need to find the right balance that works for your setup.

Take note that the bitrate has an effect on latency .
I keep mine at 6 ms at 48000 kh as i find it very good at timecode/software responce. Plus i think above 48 kh is uselless for 99% of the sound systems clubs have. You can try by lowering your setting at 44000 Kh (Cd quallity) this i believe can set you a lower latency.

I've gone back to 2ms latency. As you can see I have a lower latency but still set at 48000Hz

i dont understand this latency thing. I had a piece of crap PC running 2ms latency- no drop outs. Then all of a sudden days later i get drop outs. I went and got new PC. Same problem, much better PC dual core, 4gb ram, but I get drop outs. Could it be needles? it is happening on both decks, mostly i notice it when a hard bass hit comes in. i just beefed up the whole system. I need help its happening every minute. and it just started happening, it was fine before even with my old PC, but started happening yesterday. I did add the Kontrol x1 but i spun a few times after i got it with no issues.

It is a big different if you use a USB Controller or Timecode.
If you use Timecode your Laptop just use the soundcard.
With a USB Controller the System has to Handel One more Device.

When you Look at the posts most users with Low settings use only Timecode

1.5ms on all my computers. Its mostly a matter of OS tweaking, even low range core duo proccessors can easily handle 1.5ms.

I am tempted to try and lower the latency at 2 ms since my laptop is at 2,2 dual core.
Mind if i ask at what bitrate ?

well if your a heavy scratcher, then you can most defiantly notice a difference between 11.5 and 2, big times! if your strictly a mix dj, i cant really see what the difference would be from using a lower setting than a higher.

have you disabled all unnecessary drivers, especially WIFI and onboard sounddrivers?

many thanks for all your posts so far.
The odd thing is the dpc latency checker shows a maximum result of 192micro seconds, which equates to 1.92 milli seconds, so the numbers would suggest my laptop should be able to handle 2-3 ms without issue, ill have a look and see if there are some more os tweaks to be made, mind you having a dell, from what i have read im lucky to get it to work at all.
    keep your thoughts coming
    matt.

running at 5.5 which is setting "normal" for the 4d. i had all sorts of problems up until recently(decks freezing during play mainly).

the dpc check was a great help and i was able to turn stuff on and off to see what causes all the high spikes.

seems a rule of thumb is just disable everything that you dont need to run traktor. and make sure no programs are updating etc. by themselves.
