    @cmreal

    doing both,

but it depends on how much your computer can cope, you up the samplerate the latency goes down in return it puts more stress on your cpu
same thing when you lower your buffer rate , you can tell when your computer cant cope as maschines cpu meter will reach the top and you wil get pops and clicks in your audio.

you need to find a balance that works for you and your set up

    good luck bro

Thanks for the reply smithwessen. I should be able to balance the two, there was never a noticeable difference until I started using Ableton and Maschine together. Ialso installed a pci card recently and haven't adjusted any settings since then.

@ smithwessen: thanks a lot for your detailed comment.

Yep, the Yamaha N series is great, but space is a concern and a 1U rack is perfect for me, that's why I'm documenting myself on the MR816.

So it looks like the Yamaha team has developed very good drivers... nice!
+ very good pre's and AD/DA + the Cubase 5 integration, all of this for a very attractive price.

And yes, Firewire I/O can be tricky, but that's not a problem for me to deal with this. I'd still prefer a PCI-e interface tough (+ a 1U or 2U rack), I think it's a shame Yamaha doesn't produce a PCI-e version. Anyway, the MR816 looks great as it is.

@ cmreal04 : You should also ensure that you're using the ASIO driver that was shipped with your audio interface (you select the ASIO driver in Live or Maschine standalone audio engine prefs), and not just the basic MME or DirectX (or whatever) audio driver that's selected by default most of the time.

Alright things seem solid after adjusting sample rate to 128.

    Overall is 7.51

I use a Metric Halo LIO 8 interface. I run at 44.1 with 32 samples. Never any click or pops and my activity meter is only about a bar.

    In: 2.4
    Proc:0.7
    Out: 1.8

    Total: 4.9

That one is a little over my budget. But I like the concept which is similar to Creamware/Sonic Core audio interfaces.

my latency with 128 Samples is 16ms !

I use the Audio 8 DJ!

But is this normal? I get much better results when using my internal soundcard!

    I'm working with a MacBook Pro 2,4ghz Core2Duo & Snow Leopard.

I have 2ghz black Macbook (2006?) with 4 gig ram, interface at home is Motu 8pre with ADA8000 and Macbook internal on the road. What suprised me is I get lower latencies with 8pre (16 in, 12 out) than internal (4 in, 2 out). Maybe number of I/O doesn't affect on latency, I just somehow assumed it would.

Motu 8pre with 64 samples (standard setup):
    in: 2.1 ms, pro: 1.5 ms, out: 0.7 ms, = 4.3 ms

    Motu 8pre with 128 samples:
    in: 3.6 ms, pro: 2.9 ms, out: 0.7 ms, = 7.2 ms

    Macbook internal with 64 samples:
    in: 2.5 ms, pro: 1.5 ms, out: 1.5 ms, = 5.5 ms

    Macbook internal with 128 samples:
    in: 3.9 ms, pro: 2.9 ms, out: 1.5 ms, = 8.3 ms

Maybe USB needs more buffer or chip/drivers are just crap? You have latest drivers?

I'd like to see some list of all interfaces @ 128 samples latency how they compare because there seems to be huge difference between them. Helps to decide what interface to pick with Maschine but does anyone know are those numbers in prefences reliable?

    hey!
i'm using os x with newest drivers for booth mac & the audio 8!

I guess its really because of the usb bus! It takes too long ... really sad. Because in Traktor Scratch i can use 5,5ms without having problems, or is this not comparable?

But when i take a look a the thread: Its obviously better to choose a firewire interface, because they seem to have the lowest latencys.
