It's actually quite easy to overload Maschine in standalone... you have a full kit, with some third party FX on a couple of pads and then add a couple of software instruments (like Diva, Punch, Synth Squad or Massive) to the mix and you're at breaking point.

(It is possible to increase latency to help cut the CPU hit but this is not a great tradeoff at the jamming point and recording audio at this point is, as I mentioned earlier, is a real flow killer).

Adding multicore support would help split these instruments onto different cores, which would actually help immensely.

Maschine is a really nice piece of kit and I love a lot of things about it. But it isn't perfect yet (though I have the faith that the missing components will be added) I just strongly feel that if you add the ability to load VSTs you should be able to be able to use them to the fullest and in order to do that multicore support is essential.

I fully accept that folk's workflow varies from person to person... if one mainly uses samples then a single core may not be a problem at all but if, like me, you are used to writing using VSTs you can only get so far before you either need to start bouncing down to audio (which for me is too early in the writing stage) or move everything to a DAW. Both of these options kill any roll that I might be on.

Especially in the audio world it is hard to implement Multicore usage right, since you have to ensure that parallel processed audio is in sync. I totally understand NI's point, that they this will take long time. It isn't the usual additional thread call someone has mentioned here.
BUT Maschine is now out for a while and in that timespan they really would have been able to implement that.

So I'm also missing a response from NI. I hope they won't wait to long with an announcement.

I've heard that silence is golden, not sure I agree in this instance, but maybe they will hand us some free gold after the long wait. One can only hope and dream I guess.

This is an excellent post - a calm and constructive argument for once in this thread. For those of who you continually voice your complaints in a barely literate, whining style - take notes. This place would have a lot better discussions if everyone was so thoughtful when posting. Companies also tend to respond well to their customers when they are not completely childish.

ur totally wrong about the core issue, ive used software and produced stuff since 01" in not just some new jack to this ****, i use reason6 with no problems, live with no problems, cubase? no problems.. only things that have maxed out my cpu and caused problems is when i tryed beat thang virtual, and maschine. so what does that tell you? ive had some huge projects in reason and live and no problems, i cant even come close to that in maschine. why? cause of maschine, not cause of anyother reason.. ****, im even in school for midi production so my stuff is up to date with my computer just for that reason. i find that its the newer less thought out software that gives the most problems these days, i never had problems like this running reason the whole time since 2001, once i had a pentium4 dell and reason sugested multi cores with a newer version and i ran into problems when i would have too many devices in use, and that was due to an outdated computer. but not now, its all NI

I was crashing maschine's single core since two months after release, before VST support using the native plugs. Little bit of a piss off to see that the program collapsed under the weight of its own plugins at only 2 groups fully loaded. Why are there even 8 groups if the CPU starts shitting out at 2? And with VST support, It's even worse, you can only use like 2 or 3 synths before you start to get lag spikes upwards of 40%.

But I don't hate maschine, I still use it as a sampling tool. It really does only work for samples you have processed in other programs, it just isn't suitable for the depth of some workflows' CPU usage.

EDIT: Thinking a bit about how to alleviate the lack of multi-core for now, going to make an ableton maschine production template to spread the load to separate cores.

yeah, pretty sad. just last night my 2.5 Ghz quad-core w/ 8 gigs of RAM was red-lining. but then again, i am no longer confident that there will be a new version of Maschine

because i've lived through other discontinuations (NI Kore, Cakewalk Project 5) & this is beginning to feel similar.

I know the wait is frustrating but there will definitely be another maschine update, the question is what will it consist of, they could implement multicore and a host of other basic standards that have been omitted over the years like full-basic-midi-implementation- , or they could put a supadupa sample pack browser in maschine that searches the interwebs for sound packs and downloads them automagically.
I'd like to think its the prior, remember maschine already had multicore but it didn't work right so they took it out.... Fingers crossed!

thats a sorrowful position to take but this is based on emotion

do u think ni would be release soundpacks if they intended to discontinue it?

kore was not a successful product that is why it was discontinued, maschine is thats why it will continue

by the end of next week u will have word of the new release

What's the background on something happening next week? - or is it speculation on your part - just curious

Doesn't really take a group of talented programmers and R&D to release a sample pack - it's an easy way for NI to make money.

    Hope you're right!

I would buy it right now if it wasn't for your comment.

if that isn't going to happen, it would really be in NIs favour to post and say that's the case so I can go ahead, I will take silence to presume jpeg has guessed correctly (as I understand NI isn't going to announce it until they are ready) and will keep my money firmly in my pocket
