    Well, I thought you might have recognised my name along the factory preset designer. So I know the synth pretty well...

    well, I enjoy your fm7 patches (thanks) and thought you might have done patches but I did not check it (the demo or whatever) out yet - just saw an announcement and found it interesting.
    Although Linplug and Mac seems to be connected with some scary reports, so I did not check it out yet.

    Further statements would be appreciated. May check it out soon.

    I use Albino 2, CronoX3, and Alpha 2 on a Mac running OS X 10.3.9 and they play like a dream. I'll be buying Octopus when it's released for the Mac (Dec 19) and RM IV early in the New Year.

    The only thing scary about LinPlug is how bug-free the products are, how easy and pleasant their authorisation is, and how responsive the tech support team is to customers. What a refreshing change.

    Kind regards.

    The synthesis power in FM7 makes it one of my favorite software synths. But the bugs and lack of upgrades/improvements make it more frustrating to work with than any other software I use regularly. After waiting so long for a solution to come from Native Instruments, I'm actually quite pleased at the prospect of finding the solution from another company, and my past experiences using LinPlug products in OS X have been uniformly positive.

    As for subtractive synths, I think it's no problem using two or more FM-Synthesizers without having too much redundance sound and character wise and when it comes to software instruments Mac-Users haven't had that much to chose from. In my case it's quite a Hard- and Software collection since I'm pretty much an FM geek, but I'd rather would not like to compare them on a company driven forum, especially since I'm one of the moderators ;)

    Anyway, I think it don't hurt to write that I still like my FS1R most... ;)

    Well, FM7 seems to be much better optimized on Mac and automation features and MIDI control features are much more elaborated. And of course the max number of voices is much higher.

    For my taste that digital-analog/bit reduction algo in FM7 also sounds a little better - but still crappy.

    Well, two nice synths. Hope fm7 gets the step portamento/glissando and stepped pitch bend of my DX7 one day and some bug fixed. (besides some interesting, requested new stuff)

    Are you certain the stepped pitch pend of the DX7 isn't simply a performance problem of 80s hardware?

    nice question. my DX7 has two real functions - portamento and glissando (FM7 has a glissando parameter that does nothing). [Octopus also has no glissando, right?]
    with glissando on I get step pitch bend and with glissando of I get portamento pitch bend. performance issue or not - it is nice. would love to see that.

    Is NI listening to this?

    I'm pleased to see that there is renewed discussion about FM7 updates. If we don't keep asking for bugfixes and new features, then NI will probably just think we are all happy with the version we have had for years.

    I use FM7 all the time, and would really like to see an update.
    Reminder: I want to see the name of the loaded bank/file displayed somewhere.

    Regards - Colin

    @Musos

    I'm pretty sure the product specialist will read the forum, but I'm not sitting in Berlin and thus I'm rather a helping hand without direct conntection to the developers.

    @Steff

    Octopus has a parameter called slide, I used it in only for two or three of my patches, due to problems with the legato mode, that hopefully have been fixed with the release version, that I haven't install yet...

    My TX802 is having portamento only including a stepwidth parameter. Portamento works fine on my FM7...

    we are asking for that quite long, no :)

    yes, but that is just normal portamento slide, no..... There is no glissando at all I tink (like with FM7, at least it as a no functioning automation parameter glissando)

    Yes the step width of the later gen DXs is nice. But NI could do that much - like allowing a second MIDI input to receive scales for glissando (played and via pitch bend). [so a variable step width instead of a fix liek the later gen DXs]

    Well, I always believed that Portamento and Glide are different names for the same function, I at least never had a synth where I was able to spot a significant difference between those functions...
    I guess that automation parameter is having a different purpose, not identical to Portamento/Glide...
    Anyway, what you're after probably could be archived via some kind of MIDI Plug-In as well, not sure if there's a Mac-Version of such a plug-in avaiable, only was able to spot a windows version so far...

    Well,

    Thanks for your post.

    official DX coding portamento is a continuous glide and glissando is a stepped glide.

    About the glissando automation feature of FM7 - NI support said that it is not a functioning parameter yet. (about a year ago when I contacted them about it - as they do not send text emails but let you look into a support database they control and manage, i have no exct quote.)

    About MIDI plugin - well, first depends on the host (on Mac) and yes, could maybe achieved with Logic environment. Or some Max or Pd stuff. Would be more convenient to have it directly in FM7. And then you could also control "shuffle", "centroid" and gradually between porta and gliss. :)

    What plugs are there for PC like that?

    Thanks.
