    How soon we forget. http://emusician.com/mag/emusic_native_instruments_5/

This shows that NI had already been thinking about making a foray into a more vertically integrated market or marrying hardware and software. They didn't make the controller themselves i I'm sure they learned a lot from that experience. Kore is very much an evolution of that product except focused on synths as opposed to just B4. Maschine was a risk for NI but they had already had two iterations of Kore out the door at that point and learned what not to (ilke integrating a sound card into the product, which was a source of complaint for the first Kore controller) They also learned where to reduce costs on manufacturing (Kore was a full brushed metal affair await with touch sensitive knobs. Its one of the sturdiest pieces of gear I own) and still deliver a decent well built product. These things take time.

I think NI can do a keyboard controller. I think they have the supply chain and know how to pull it off now, something I don't think they could have done two years ago. I understand that not everyone thinks its a good idea for them. However some of us want the same experience that we get with Maschine on a workstation class product. The arguments against a keyboard controller are the same arguments one could use against Maschine. Maschine is just a pad controller with extra knobs. You can do everything (and more) by using an MPD with your DAW of choice. The workflow is the important part. I have yet to see a keyboard controller that works like a workstation, where I can control and load patches like I can on a Fantom G, or work on a full song without having to look at the screen constantly. Maschine is a pad controller that goes beyond just being a controller and transforms into an instrument. A keyboard controller that does the same would be a game changer. We already have a couple of contenders like Arturia who are making integrated keyboard controllers at reasonable prices and decent quality (wood panels, nice), but they fail (IMO) where Maschine excels, sequencing, ease of use, workflow.

Frankly I'm surprised it hasn't been done before, but I don't think any other company has the comprehensive library of synths, sounds, and hardware know ho to pull it off the way NI could. A Komplete workstation with Maschine's sequencer would be awesome.

Who all seen the organists on the NI forum say YEAH! :D

Seriously though, you make some strong arguments. As it pertains to the audio card specifically, more recent devices (Traktor Kontrol S4/2) have had integrated audio cards and I don't think those users have been too upset about it. If only due to the form factor of Kore, anyone who bought it likely already had a collection of gear, audio interface included, so I can see why users would be frustrated by paying extra for something they didn't need, as well as by any possible conflicts that arose from having multiple audio interfaces connected to their computer at once.

Conversely, many of the forum members arguing in favor of a Maschineboard in this thread have been raising issues like "I just want a single, usable, all-in-one-device" or "it would be perfect for someone just getting started integrating a computer into their productions, or someone just beginning to attempt producing in the first place." I don't think it's a stretch to say that a built-in audio card would be appropriate for those use cases. (On a personal note, I've always been really impressed by most of Maschine's fx and wouldn't mind plugging some other piece of hardware directly into my Maschine, running the audio through, let's say Metaverb or Grain Stretch, and sampling to pads. Yes, I'm aware this can be done with Maschine and any audio interface, but not without a fair amount of clicking. Even if Maschine did have a built-in USB audio interface, the effect would still being applied in the box, but to me part of the point of Maschine is hiding the computer in a way, allowing you to work directly with a piece of hardware that feels like a standalone device.)

I can't believe this hasn't come up already. Unless the idea is that from here forward "Maschine" is the branding for any hardware product that facilitates interaction with your NI software (though if they're going to go with universal branding like that, "Kontrol" seems like a more appropriate name linguistically), doesn't a "Komplete Keyboard Workstation" seem more likely than a "Maschine Keyboard Workstation" given the nature of each product?

(Now I'm imagining something like the Jupiter-80 with a full-color touch display that allows for full control of your NI softsynths, expanding on the ideas they started to explore with the Maschine 1.7/Komplete 8 integration.)

    This.

I feel that this is where NI will go next. Steve Job's quoted someone "People who are serious about software, should make their own hardware (or vice versa?)" I would love if NI took their Maschine approach over to a Komplete Keyboard. The only thing that I could see as difficult about this is the fact that their is a **** load of parameters to control within Komplete instruments and effects. Kore and Maschine major controls are narrowed to 8 knobs. Something like Kontakt or Massive have parameters and knobs for days haha.

I'm all for the NI eco system of hardware/software. I currently own Maschine and the Mikro. Kontrol S4 and X1, Audio 8 DJ and Komplete 8. I love that I can just plug in the Maschine and S4 and they just work... Komplete still has a lot to come around too. I really think NI could drop a keyboard at a reasonable price. I'd be willing to drop $500 for a tightly integrated Komplete Keyboard.

Rymf you wrote this ''I think it was a risk worth taking, as no one had attempted "The Software MPC" yet, in the sense that there were sampling plugins, and USB pad controllers, but no all in one solution.''
But when someone mentions and all in one controller with a keyboard you come up with lines and lines of words to explain why you think its a bad idea!
There's no reason for not doing anything other than excuses and plain old negativity.
Musicians are creative thinkers they dont need business plans to make **** work.

Yeah, I definitely meant a Maschine Keybpard Workstation as I think Maschine should be the "brains" of the system. I definitely was thinking about something like the Jupiter-80, but with Maschine. If NI did that I would buy it in a heartbeat. Add an integrated Audio 6 and the awesome knobs that Kore had (the maschine knobs start to peel after a while) and I'm sold.

    Ah but do they really?
I know from experience you need it to get the funds but to run the business nothing is ever as black and white as a so called business plan.
Look at the recent financial mess ups business plans coming out their asses but still the so called know alls messed up.
    ---
I dont want a Neko I like Maschine I just happen to know what else I would like a future version of it have.
Everyone seems to be living in fear afraid that they cant have it all without there being a sacrifice elsewhere.
But guess what we can have all the oz updates that are needed and the controllers.
It is ok it can happen just ask!
