Where is formant 1 waveform? Only 2 and above are there..

Hi! Would anyone know by any chance?

Is it because it can be built from scratch I suppose?

How are you using the formants? SImply by mixing various ones together or are you moodulating them?

    Thanks!!

Formants tend to be independent from the pitch, so it's rather a snapshot of a formant. First Formant should be a Sine (Fundamental) with a little Feedback ;)

Much appreciated..indeed since+feedback is the key for formant 1. Would you be so kind as to help me understand if the formants waves have any use as a modulator in creating other formant types sounds? I realize that a formant will remain fixed regardless of underlying pitch being fed but I am not sure how these apply to FM (and there is no information available). Thanks

If you after voice/choir type sounds, I'd recommend to use the filters at high resonance set to bandpass and parallel. There are ways to create formants with a pair of operators a well, in case you want to dig deep into the FM.

Hello thanks again for your response. I would really to know more about using purely FM to do vocal type sounds.

I'm presently experimenting with 2 ops to create a formant peak ex: fb(40)>e(1)>f(8.)>output which seems to work when combining with formant 1 (a simple sine + feedback as you described above) together (as in speech synthesis).

What other techniques would you recommend (without using the filter). Anything useful out of the actual formant waveforms as well? Thanks!!

Sorry for the delay, got ill and I'm still not completely recovered. A voice sound tend to be more convincing when using 3 formants, the formants with the higher numbers tend to be quieter but you don't necessarily need a pair of operators for every formant, since you can use the same modulator with different carriers, that way you can keep a few carriers in reserve for morphing.

These links provides basic information about formants/vowels:
