I recently downloaded the True School expansion, and while navigating through the installer, I got to the Destination page. It defaulted to my iMac's hard drive, and said it would take about 1.3GB of space. I changed the location to where I keep libraries on my external hard drive. After making this change, the amount of space changed to 4KB, and the install only took a second. Isn't Maschine able to have data sitting on external drives?

Hmmm, well you can always install to your internal, copy it to your external, then point the 'Libraries' directory for True School to the new location in the Maschine preferences I guess.

the 4KB, is is the size of the install on your iMac. even though all the library would be installed on your external hard drive, some files have to be installed on your iMac's hard drive, to direct your applications like Maschine to where the Library is.

so yes, you can install on an external drive ;)
