Is ram the biggest thing that matters?
I'm eyeing the cheapest mac G4 powerbook versus a middle-range inspiron with a 2.6 gig processor. I dunno, I'm so confused. I just want something that works with no hassles. :)

One possible advantage of a Wintel system is Traktor runs very efficiently on them, quite a small load - say about a 15 - 20 percent CPU load on a 2.6 P4 with time stretching on.

Seems to me that the Mac systems are much heavier loaded by Traktor - maybe the Mac owners will be able to comment on that.

Nah, cheaper G4 powerbooks (like the 12") really suck for the processor load. I almost never use timestretching as is sounds absolutely horrible when I do.

The Mac is truely stable though, no porblems setting up or performing. Never has crashed...ever!

I used to own a dell inspiron and was using Final Scratch (I know they're two separate products) and while I really loved the computer (speed wise with other apps like 3d apps and graphic stuff, it blew my current 12' powerbook outta the water and costed about 800 bucks less!) However, it really sucked using final scratch, lotta latency issues...not sure if that's the same with Traktor DJ studio cause I"ve never used it on a PC platform.

    Also an iBook user here.

Had a G3 800MHz iBook (medium time stretching possible) and now a 1GHz G4 (high quality time stretching possible).

    Never a crash. 1 year, 2-3 times a week, 7 hours+ a night and counting.
