Sorry maybe I wasn't clear enough. Yes, you would both have the software. The hardware would generate the software serial as long as you don't already have these software supplements (if you already own or had another hardware with the same software). This is to make it easier to everybody and to avoid users having multiple times the same licenses.
Does it make more sense ?

I get it now. So the buyer of the used equipment gets new serials only if *they* do not already have them.

This is super user friendly of you to do. I wish I could track down the person who sold me my S49 MK2 and request the hardware again! Lol. I let them keep it bc I did not need the software, but now I realize I can't really sell it myself.

I can actually help you with that and ask the customer if he would be willing to transfer the hardware serial. Just drop me a PM with the hardware serial

So, now when people buy HW in pawn shops and similar they can just look at the HW serial in the sticker under the HW, register it and it's all good?
Basically the seller doesn't actually need to send anything as long as the sticker is still readable(?)
    Awesome.

This is only for newer hardware afaik and keep in mind that you would still need the HW serial to be registered in your account. I think we might be able to move hardware serial more easily now though since there is really no more dependencies with software.
I'll ask for the official communication to be dealt with quickly so you all can have a better overview of what this all means.

So do I need to do anything before I sell the Maschine MK3 to someone else - like unregistering the hardware serial from my account or transferring the hardware serial to the new owner? Or can the new owner just register the hardware (and subsequently the software) without me doing anything?

You just need to transfer the HW serial. You don’t even have to wait for support to get back to you anymore, I did it today to give a friend a spare M32 keyboard to entertain himself with, and we got the transfer key immediately, he registered all the software and is on his way. Pretty awesome how fast it was even with all the pandemonium on the site today.

I went to the license transfer part of the NI website but next to my hardware serial it says "Not transferable." So I would need to contact NI support to do the HW transfer, no?

New guy here i.e. I don't know jack!
I just bought a used one and the seller is now worried about going through with the transaction. He is not the original owner and I don't think he ever registered anything. Is this something that can be remedied?

The serial number of the hardware is your license to use the software per registration, so thus, one would have to transfer it via official means which is easy peasy. The only catch seems that you need someone to transfer it to, meaning you need a buyer and as one one who will agree to wait the couple of days. What would be nice is if you can entirely deregister the hardware so it is in the like new unregistered state while looking for a new home for it, that way it could as well be easily donated to a school or someone without any official transfer hoop jumping. I actually never even registered my mk3 or jam as I already had 2 previous maschine 1 and 2 software licenses from the early days when the software was separate.

Yeah I have a license already that I got with a mikro, would be good to get another though so I can sell the mikro on with it though as I'll get more for it..

Yes, it would be the same for the Maschine Jam but you would still need the hardware serial number to be transferred to you or at least communicated.
