    Hi to all,
i just recently purchased a new laptop, and eager to try out traktor 2 didn't notice that i was sent the wrong computer until after installing traktor and installing my back up files. traktor 2 runs almost flawless with any major tweeking. now my dilema, should i keep this computer (AMD PHENOM Dual-Core 3Ghz 4gig ram) Or send it back and get the one i wanted(AMD PHENOM Quad-Core 1.8Ghz 6gigs ram .

Do you think the Quad would be better even if its 1.8 ghz compared to the dual-core 3ghz . theres difference $200. i have 30 days to try the laptop . thanx

of course quad core is the next up and coming thing but i looked at it like this, all the djs running serato and traktor have been using dual core processors for years up this point, and they have worked fine.

and it also depends on the manufacturer of the laptop and design. i was about to get a Dell studio with i7, until i read that they are having many failures in that series machine, power and heat related. remember the quad will probably run hotter and if the specific machine isnt built to disipate that heat then the best processor in the world will still overheat and be a POS.

research the chip, then the brand, read the reviews, then buy.
i would have been out back if i hadnt read the dell studio 15 and 16 series reviews that had the i7 processor in them!

the i7 will be better at multi tasking, and that is up to the programs to use that power, if the program doesnt have the ability to use the quad cores ability then it wont really show itself.

i ended up getting an i5, when djaying, i will be running nothing besides Traktor and maybe a ext hdd, im thinking my 2.66 GHz should be able to handle it

I think I'm more concerned on how the heck did they send you a computer whose specs aren't what you ordered?
Can you tell us who the company is so we can NOT do business with them...lol

and is the $200 in your favor?

Traktor is a a single core app and so will get better performance out of the 3Ghz than the 1.8.

Also traktor is a 32bit app and can't see more than 4Gig of ram anyway.

All this assumes that the laptop is only going to be running traktor. If you are planning to do a lot of multi-tasking with other apps then the quad core and more ram might suit better.

Whatever you do, just avoid laptops with dedicated graphics especially if you're purchasing a windows laptop.

my advice: Intel cpu and no nVidia graphics.

My ASUS system works flawless out of the box with 5,5ms latency.

Well the 4GB Limit is because of 32Bit in general so that needs no confirmation.

Now, afa it being a single core application only, well that would definitely suck.

I mean considering this is an application where there are multiple things happening at any one given time, you would rather have all of the instructions running across multiple cores when applicable.

Even so, the bottle neck is still HDD & Ram since this is where al the action is really taking place. Unless you have a really old CPU :p

just think of it as a game of averages. quad cores are brand new, and not in the majority of systems, so why would a company invest the money and tech into making a software that will integrate both dual and quad systems.
even hard core games dont all benefit from the quad setup.
i put it like this, for serious multi tasking thats what quads are where its at.
i think most DJs are running mostly just the traktor, serato, and an ext hdd.
the power of a i7 would be nice but probably over kill.

Yes I can confirm this is not True.

1/ Traktor is a 32 bit app - That is True

2/ The 32Bit version of the O/S is limited to 4TB Maximum addressable memory space. Actually due to Memory Mapping its really 3.2GB but PAE allows 4GB max addressable memory.

3/ Applications are restricted to 2GB per process not 4GB, so Traktor is limited to a maximum of 2GB when running as a 32bit app. Running a 32bit app on a 64bit O/S only allows additional apps to run it does not change the 32 bit per process memory limit. It does also require 64bit kernel mode drivers.

One final thing, Traktor is not limited to a single core but its process threads are. What you'll find is that most of Traktors load will be on one core but it does definitely spill over load for additional threads onto multiple cores.
