@TomField cheers for figuring all that out, will put it in the description

@ImNoDJ no it is not the exact same thing, especially with the compressor unit. It sounds like a little change but on club speaker this will make a huge difference as it gives you back a bit of mastering

Julia:> true, did not think of that yet. But ive been using the remixdecks 4 live shows the last few years, using it as kind of as a multitrack: where i master the entire track as is where a 2 track in Ableton (meaning having a masterbus with eq, compression limiting on the master), and after that bouncing the seperate tracks (1-4: beats bass, synths, synths+ one shots ) through the same masterbus. disabeling the limiter in traktor

And it sounds pretty solid, a bit more compressed (since im having the 4 tracks seperate through the master bus), but actually, making my sound more transparant.

So i guess i could be the same for the stem creator tools, maybye not using the compressor (except when it turns out to be an exceptional
    algorithm)

    Everyone who is worried that stems may be detrimental to the overall sound, I want to suggest another side to the argument;
So far none of the available Stem files have been mushed into a lego brick (I hate over compressed tracks).
Having 4 busses of audio surely gives a huge amount of additional headroom to get loudness from a stem without massive amounts of compression. It is if I'm not mistaken 4 audio tracks governed by the headroom of your channel fader. If required a kick drum or bassline could punch through in the middle of a busy track just like it does at the intro and outro.

Obviously this could be a new dangerous weapon for engineers to abuse our ears further with, or like spicy sauce, if used carefully it may add an enjoyable flavour to the dish?

In a few hours I will try my best at the compressing options + the track naming, also some people seem to obtain tracks with a bad audio quality so I will add a parameter for this in version 0.3

IF nothing's encrypted it's gonna be quite an easy thing to achieve so I can post some samples with/without much/a bit compression. Also there seem to be different compressor types which is something I also want to have a look at

Anyone wanting to provide his stem files to be compressed in order to get some free promo in my next video? If you're on windows, you can also send me the waves and I will create them for you.

Back to the compressing thing; Traktor doesn't read the file if you set the compressor to "true" instead of "false". I thought I made a mistake during bit conversion but the second file I created is perfectly similar to the original one except that particular line.

It might be possible that it isn't a boolean value (true/false) but rather expecting a number (false/1/2/3) or a string (false/punchy/soft/loud). Without "activating" the compressor, changing the values doesn't make sense. I will try changing some values (maybe the comp is activated already) but I don't think this is going to work at all

update: changing the number values (e.g. for the ceiling) does have a noticeable effect, however setting the compressor from false to true or the limiter from true to false immediately makes Traktor silent and even the preview doesn't work any longer then. There must be some kind of checksum preventing these values to be set manually. Maybe Traktor hasn't even implemented these plugins yet (wouldn't explain the missing preview tho) and as soon as the steam creator gets released we gotta update to 3.0. If anyone already bought some stems it would be interesting if they got compression activated.

I will make one more post just in case someone wants to film that whole story in a typical US-themed blockbuster, please imagine a waving US flag and playing childre + happy families and satisfied war veterans in in the background:

I think I've done my job here, I guess it doesn’t make sense to invest more time into something that is going to be released in 4 days anyway.

This was my first "major" hack, never gotten more attention than that for anything before and it felt great. Thanks to everyone providing information, testing the application and all the positive feedback, maybe we can get something like this going again when NI, again, thinks it’s cool to make their users wait and bleed for some new technology.

*screen fading out for credits before the DVD abruptly jumps back to the main menu with the movie’s annoying theme song*

No need to do more, I been playing with stems tonight created with 0.1 and had no issues.
Shout out to NI for implementing such a great format... and to alecman for giving us the tools to have a proper play with it!

Now could everyone here take a moment to sign this online petition?

Created by one of the members on this forum (Heckler) to push the labels to give us their back catalogues in Stem format. :)

Hell yea I didn't realize my company logo actually made it into the file, looks so unfamiliar if displayed on a stranger's screen, made me proud :D

Do you want to send me your custom stem? I'd like to check out if I can change the track naming

All quiet on the NI front... or has any Windows user seen the official tool yet? I know it's still some bit of summer left, but asking never hurts.

Finally I got the Beta now. Seems to work like a charm, although you can't specify codec and file compression. Never mastered a track before, so I will dive into that too. ;)
