I recently got interested in mixing and figured I'd try it with the Traktor demo before I invest in turntables, but I can't seem to do it well if I can't listen to a different track in each of my headphones. After arguing with my computer for quite some time I believe that my existing soundcard won't do what I want it to do. I want to get an inexpensive card that will allow me to pre-listen to each of my decks while having my main speakers playing the mix. Suggestions?

For a regular computer a Sound Blaster Live will do the job & is low-cost. OEM version of SB Audigy is similar and a little more cost.

I added an M-Audio Delta 1010LT PCI card and love it. The drivers are very stable.

I am using the Echo Indigo DJ soundcard and it's rock solid. It has exactly what you're looking for, a main out and a headphone out in a PCMCIA card...that is, as long as you're using a laptop.

The only thing is that it's NOT inexpensive...about $200 brand new. Well worth it though, as long as that all you're looking for is the monitoring cababilites. If you'd like hands on controls as well you can look at an integrated soundcard/midi-controller such as the new Behringer B-Control Dee Jay. This unit is actually cheaper then the Indigo and gives you hands on controls. Hope this helps.

Yo wassup, check into the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum.... It's not so cheap, but it's a great card and comes with a front panel which will fit nicely into an extra CD-Rom bay...

It has features like SPDIF, Optical, 1/4" headphone, 1/4" line-in/mic, RCA, Midi, Firewire ports, the typical soundcard stuff on the backpanel, remote control etc.
It's a really great card with top quality as well.... I have no problem s at all with it....

Most likely there are other cards with just as great features but this one I know, and it's great... I have no problems with it...

AND it's what I use when i'm playing out.. Believe me, it draws attention..
