Why not try to be a little bit more positive in this forum as I think it's rather unique that a firm thries to keep in touch with owners of her products and even (as it seems to me) admits some products have (what we call in Belgium) children's sicknesses (a way to say that you have to go in an unevitable way through a growing process).
I passed a lot of time the last 2 days reading al the posts in the AP-room.
I got some whishes about the representation and possibilities of the FX and Recording bars.
I think some users (also) e.g. experienced problems choosing the record/play options . The icons in the upper left corner don't always give evidence of the possibilities they stand for.
Also, (unless I didn't discover the right way to do it, it's not possible to combine the bar with what I should call the FX parameters with the one that offers the record/play/metronome options.
The metronome functions still seems useful to me (for those practicing late at night e.g. with earphones), but why not make it a little bit more complex (e.g. a leading tune (with variable loudnesses), combination of different note values (admitting I'm taking inspiration from the Boss DB-60 or DB-90 metronomes ...).

    Hi Snyer,

    thanks for your post!

I am waiting for other responses. let me just add that we will look at all ideas for the coming updates.

the current update will already include navigation and rekorder enhancements.

    Best,
    Markus

p.s.: feel also free to post sketches or links to product manuals etc.

    Hi Markus
after posting elsewhere on this AP forum, I feel things are finally going in the right direction. Maybe we can make AP the best it can be together...
So, here is my wish list:
1)The velocity curve. I think it would be great if the velocity curve could be tweaked more finely to adapt to different controllers. One of my keyboards for example doesn't go more than 110 even if you hit it with a hammer, but it's great otherwise. Would it be possible to have settings for the max/min controller velocity and a more sophisticated tweaking of the curves which I feel it's a bit too coarse in this first release?
For example, in my case I would like to set the curve so that it goes from 1 to 127 when the controller goes from 1 to 110: with a straight line or a different curve, with a control that allows to choose the depth of the curve (continuously, not in large discrete steps).
2)Since many people have 1 gig or more of memory it would be great to be able to load more of the samples directly in RAM. Maybe a switch that would let the user load 300M, 600M, 1G or even the whole thing in memory?
One last thing: one of the samples, E0, the first E on the piano, when hit at the maximum velocity has a few seconds of complete silence in the middle of the note decay, at least on my copy. Can that be fixed?
    Thanks
    Enzo

    Hi Enzo,

that would be my wish exactly for this forum! maybe we need to use a more provocative title for this thread to make more people read it ;-)

both of your requests make sense to me! I put them on the list for a future update. just to be clear, this is no garantie, yet, since all features will have to be prioritized for each update.

part of the priority is severity for the users, part is fit into the overall product concept, part is effort to implement it inside the constraints of the technical architecture. in short: is it useful, is it usable, is it doable with reasonable time/resources/quality?

with the missing part of the piano sample are do you mean E0 (lowest E) on the Steingraeber? is this with 16 bit or 24 bit samples?

    best,
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
sorry, I forgot to specify which piano I was referring to...
It's the Concert Grand, 24 bit. This is the filename:
    Stein-R(E0)-V(999)-dB(1855)-T(HF)-M(127)-P(598-03-01).wav
Its output is zero from second 6 to second 8 from the beginning of the sample.
    Thanks
    Enzo

I appreciate your optimism: AP has to get much much better and make pianists enthousiastic...
I think that the suggestion to work out the possibilities of setting parameters for the controller reaction, as in the velocity curve function, makes a lot of sense. I work with a Studiologic VMK188 model. I realized that, in the bass, the white keys are generally more on the loader side compared to the black keys. So I imagined a function in AP that allows the user to "fine-tune" his/her own controller on a key-to-key basis and to save the settings. If I had this possibility, I would definitely spend half a day working on such settings in order to minimize once forever the symptoms of "too loude" or "too silent" keys. And why don't you call this function "piano-tuner"? Tell me what you think about that.

    Hi Markus,
It would be nice if the Recorder had a key-binding feature similar to that in Sonar.

This enables the user to control the recorder functions from a midi-controller by using user-specified combinations of keys.

    Thanks for considering this.

Markus may I support that suggestion? And what about recording in midi format? Kind regards

    Hi Overtone,

I think that the velocity curve adjustment is something that we can look at in a future version! the per key tuning/adjusting is getting too complex for the AP GUI in my mind. You can better use Kontakt for that. The next Kontakt 2 update will be able to load and save AP patches.

    Hi Rolstad,

yup, that is a great idea. the product designer actually suggested this as well with key combinations on the keyboard. I was thinking about using the CME controllers (CC#114 to CC#119).

    Hi Luc,

let me check on the MIDI format thing again. this was the first plan but we had to switch to the APS format in the end which is the internal format of the recorder. probably a question of adding an SMF export. SMF import is already done.

    Markus

    Hi Markus.

How can I carry out that "fine-tuning" of the key-per-key velocity of AP in Kontakt 2?

    Best.

    Hi Overtone,

okay, you need the latest Kontakt 2 update (2.0.2.007).

then please download this video tutorial that I made for Phil.

    http://nidownload.minuskel.de/Phil.zip

note: please make sure that you backup your AP instruments first. no waranty that AP will actually load the NKIs that you save in the version above since AP uses a newer engine version. also be careful with using the script GUI in Kontakt since some script commands were added after 2.0.2.

    Happy holidays,
    Markus

Latest update I see listed is 2.0.2

When do you expect the 2.0.2.007 to be available?

    Hi all,

I was talking about the last released Kontakt 2 update. you can find the full version in the About screen when clicking on the NI logo.

so 2.0.2.007 is the exact build we released as the 2.0.2 update. i.e. you can start right away if you own Kontakt 2.

    Hi all,

just a note of caution here. please try the below with a few changes first, i.e. if you can relaod the changed patch in AP.

since we are using a newer version of Kontakt internally, the below is an unsupported process. well, technically the whole AP patch editing is ;-)

    maybe somebody could report back?

    Hey Ya'll,

First things first on my wish list is if you go to the Digidesign website and look under RTAS improvements for Pro Tools 7 Akoustik Piano is not listed for having reduced CPU load on Pro Tools. I would like to have that looked into since 5 other Native Instruments Softwares are listed there. My next big wish making the volume over every key on all of the pianos more even.

    Hi Jrw,

could you please post the exact link? that sounds strange to me since all Kontakt 2 based products are built based on the always current PT SDK (software developer kit).

it is possible that that was not available in AP 1.0 timeframe. the upcoming AP update should be fine, though.

also: making the volumes more even is eaxacly what we are working on right now.

    Best,
    Markus

Alright, I do not have a direct link for you since where ever you are on the Digidesign website the link will only post catalog. But, go to the products page, click on Pro Tools 7, find the link that gives you a list of new features, click on the mixing tab, and look for RTAS improvements, and then click on the link for a list of supported plug-ins. This is the list [Just scroll down to Native Instruments]:

If you do not see a product here, then the manufacturer has not yet provided the relevant information to Digidesign. Please contact the manufacturer’s website for additional details.

** Some products are not available in an RTAS version at all, or the RTAS-optimized version has not yet been announced. Products marked as "Coming soon" are expected to be available before April 2006.
Final release testing of Pro Tools 7.0 has shown that there are some performance issues with certain RTAS plug-ins when used with single processor computers. Instance counts on OS X-based LE systems may show a small decrease with certain plug-ins; Windows XP-based LE systems may incur a small performance hit as well with these plug-ins. All plug-ins tested show significant instance count gains on dual-processor computers. Digidesign is actively looking at these issues and hopes to have a fix for this as soon as possible.

    Thanks Markus for that tutorial.
Something else: I work with the VFP3/10 triple pedal and I have some suggestions concerning the sostenuto and the una corda pedal:

    (1) sostenuto pedal.
I presently work with Olivier Frappier's preset file "CGrandfix_V4_02-21112005.nki" which has some overtone implementation. The overtone functionality works when you keep the keys pressed down, but it does not work for the keys that you hold using the sostenuto pedal. I know that Olivier is helping you to build overtones in the new update, but I don't know if he is aware of this problem with the sostenuto pedal.

    (2) una corda pedal:
I have the impression that the only effect that the use of the una corda pedal has is a decrease in the dynamics. However, when you listen to a real grand piano the use of this pedal substiantially modifies the colour/timbre of the sound. This is not only just due to the fact that the hammer hits only one (or two) cords, but, more importantly, that the point of contact between the hammer and the cord (or cords) is different. The latter has the effect that the piano actually sounds intonated in a different way when you play with una corda. This difference in the timbre/colour of the sound is the main reason, why I use una corda in certain moments, and not the decrease in dynamics.
I guess that you have not recorded special samples for the una corda pedal and I highly encourage you to do so for a future update. There is a certain expressivity that you simply cannot produce without una corda.

All the best and happy new year,

    Aria
