the main problem is they just replicate what you can do with any controller, INNOVATE PEOPLE!

any controller dont have an x-y efx thing like the ones on kaos pad.
any controller wouldnt have frequency cross over like the one in djm-2000
all of this would be possible by laptop touchscreen no need for more stuff added to controllers (pushing prices further up)and easly upgraded(as it is software).
a marrige of controller and touchscrren layout is the solution as certain thing are best with an real controller like jog wheel but certain things better on touch screen.

I think i speak for many about the unnatural feel of using touch screens when it comes to Dj'ing or any music production of that matter. maybe in 5 or 10 years when the technology gets better but I dont see a full out implementation of this in traktor any time soon.

5-10 years we probley will be on full touchscreen dj systemes!(who would have thought laptop djing would be the norm today 10-15 years a go?)
i dont know if you have used proper touch screen on some vst efx . it is allready up to par and a different aproach to the game which is good.
zooming in zoom, out i use it on i.explorere all the time ,easy ,faster and more fun.
-pioneer djm 2000 allready have an touchscreen on it and that is one hell of a mixer!(with an x-y setting on traktor this screen could even be used for that i guess!)
-korg kaos pad using the x-y screen make you use efx differentley
-frqency crossover on pioneer djm 2000 is great way to spice things up again.
this are all possibilities proposed by pro djs from comanys like pioneer and korg which is why they allready exist.
certain people dont like changes other want the possbilities it gives them.
the same thing about unnatraul feel to use touch screen you were saying were said about cd decks, laptop.... and look where we are now.
how many people out there love their i-phones ipads , tablet pcs and so on shows that touch screen allready pretty good device and will just grow into more.
traktor is a software that can give this posibilities to those of us who wants more control since it is an software and it is done by programing and wont be needing hardware which is why it is ideal to make an touch screen lay out first(which shouldnt be too hard for the ni technitians) as it is only a lay out people can choose to use and step 2 on next traktor upgrade maybe in 2 years time give option of efx control using touch screen.
its a win win situation for ni as touch screen layout will just add mor to traktors values feature and will be easy enough to do! and for touch screen owners who will
only increase the coming years give another reason to use traktor!

I think the DDJ-T1/DDJ-S1 proves the point.

well luckely i can use this function with my touch screen now and still use my s4 instead of buying pioneers overpriced units.
s4 and ns6 seems to best units out there , i think pioneer will have a hard time making people buying their unit instead.

Um, I am looking to buy an S4, actually have decided to. But I did notice the S4 is missing the needle drop function. How do you get to the middle of a track fast (without having cue points already saved) with the S4? Is there some way to "fast forward" with the jog wheel?

using touch screen you can do this the sameway pioneer neddle search works using your screen. touch screen laptop dosent cost much this days i bought mine i7 for 850£
and yes threre is a way to fast forward i believe using jogwheel but i havent used it.touch screen is an good investment in future traktor we can zoom in to wave file you could use your touch screen for that using two fingers the same way as i-phone!
but trust me you dont wanna buy pioneer just because of needle search, the best two controller right now would be s4 n ns6, mc6000 would be a good choice for mobile djs i guess.on top of that pioneer cost more with less feature!

You can use the Left side Encoder in the Loop Section on the Kontroller to scrub though a track very quickly.

You dont need to use the Jog Wheel.

I think Windows/Mac PC touchscreen market saturation will have to be a lot higher than it's current level of almost nothing before NI would even consider it.

I actually took the time to look at the videos above. If the controller is decent, there is no reason to have a touch screen. Basically in those videos, you are using the touch screen as the controller. I'd much rather have REAL buttons.

I work for a company who also uses touch screens for their control systems and it is a real PITA, because the screens are the weakest link in the whole system. They are breaking all the time and when it happens, you are stuck using a mouse, which means for a DJ, you might as well pack up and go home.

i understand what you are saying. but i believe a combination of touch and real controller must be the best thing. like the neddle search , or zoom in, or for file searchin (if it is set for touchscreen), or changing windows, and some grafiical ways like x-y graph to use efx(like kaos pad).(hand gestures seem very intresting)
what those videos really proves that using touch screen is something that will be more integrated in djing in future and there more people intrested in it out there! therefor a marked for it exist.
all i am saying an screen skin layout option at first will give this people more reason to go for traktor, and is simple enough to do, and i guess other things will follow in future. but a an option of bigger txt, and some bigger knobs on the the skin layout.
obviously if we could make our own skin layout like vdj we could have done it our self but on traktor we are not let to do so. as for ur software at work brekking up might have something to with your software and the fact its an work place thing and everyone using it(asking for problems) :)
i havent had any problems with my touchscreen breaking up at home what so ever, but i know how to keep my laptop in order and i am the only user on it!

Touch screens are cool, just don't ever take my knobs away. With some things you just need that tactile feel, like turning an EQ knob, turning a knob on touch screen sux.
