Just out of curiosity, does anyone here prefer their older Mk1 without the colors than the new one? I have an older one and personally like the rawness of it.

I don't know if I "prefer" it, but I am attached to my MK1 and have no interest in MK2. If my MK1 blew up tonight, I would replace it tomorrow, but I would see if I could find a Mk1 somewhere, and if not then I'd cave and take the newest one.

I'm really not interested in colored lights and such, or even "pimping" out my Maschine. I just like to hit it :)

i have both, and i have to agree with ghost, i'm not feeling the one knob thing all that much... however the color pads are good, and i think the mk1 pads where more accurate to pressure, other than that you do get a couple of more bottons on the MKII, but they do the samething as bottons already mapped, like those two back and forward arrows under the big knob act the same as the big knob when browsing for sounds.. thought that was kind of point less.. but i've learned to enjoy both of them

One knob is dope i thnk, i dont have mk11 but those three knobs on the mkII get cumbersome. Plus Mk11 button tactility is way better, so hands down, I would go for mk!, but im allover mk1 right now, puttin to good use

I used to have MK1 now I have MK2 white.
I think White is pretty pussy
next to that the coloured pads are ugly
but is nice to use... they help me in my workflow

I tried a Mk2 today and thought the colored lights were overkill and a bit confusing. I prefer my Mk1 and much cheaper!

I have Maschine Mk1 and Maschine Mikro Mk1. I thinked buy Mikro Mk2, but there just a lights pads, that not so important in music producing so I got Mk1 and love it a lot.

I literally can't use the mk1 like I used to now. the pads are so much more dynamically responsive on the mk2 series that when I go back to my mk1 it literally feels like it's broke. thats the biggest improvement for me.

i use my MKI more as a midi controller than for the pads so I prefer the extra knobs...id prefer the newer knobs of the MKII and the screens...I had the mikro and the pads are better, but id prefer a better step sequencer anyway...16 isnt enough for patterns and when its set to 32 or above its way too busy

    but Im happy anyways :)

please explain what u mean by rawness in reference to maschine
    ---
u can set the pads to allone colour to avoid confusion
    ---
i love the data wheel, as often bumped n chnged swing, tempo and volume by accident

i think ni did a great job subtely refining the style, its like how the iphone did not change dramatically as they already had a winning formula.

the click buttons feel like a smoother harder rubber making things like transport buttons more responsive and satisfying to use.

the screen looks better and the unit feels heavier , more solid and less like a cheap boxy controller nd more like a solid midi instrument

i got the black mk2 btw,, the silver face looks aight but i feel the classic black looks more tha business and less gimmicky

The one knob replacing the three I have to say is actually a big improvement. I love it

... why would you ask that? lol... thats like saying... ok so I can buy a bmw or I can buy a hyundai... but which one helps me get to work better.

they both do the same job. one is just built a lil better than the other and is a lil more pleasurable to use.

Becasue Im a MK1 owner and im just saying that it doesnt help u make any better music ...ok its improved slightly....but the fundamentals are exactly the same....so people who have not used Maschine could save themselves some money and just go for the MK1 instead of being sucked into the pimped up lights.... :p

Interesting points. I think to make music and which will make better is not valid..more of which unit the producer feels best with, then the magic comes. I think at the end of the day, anything takes time to get used to, but for now my Mk1 does fine for me.
Rawness, I mean more like simple and not as color happy as the Mk2. 2 colors vs 8, not as fancy I'll say= stripped down, not as good screen..raw. SP1200 is raw bones, but tough sound!

For those of you who don't like the colored pads, is there an option to disable that function and have all 16 pads the same color?

indirectly yes, if something feels better to use than i will use it more.

the feel good factor of using it will lead to better results

also if look into colour therapy some colours equate to frequency

this puts ur mind into a different frequency and can trigger different creative expression

so dont count out the benefit of different colour pads,,as this can be an aid to creative ideas and that **** is priceless

...sure...and this goes also for the groups...so you can "copy" the look of the mk1 if you'd like to...
