i gotta hand it to NI

the sp1200 vintage mode has by far exceeded my expectations and it gives me that warmth i have long dreamed for on those sleepless nights flipping through my records looking for that golden sample.

man the warmth it gives my drums sounds like some classic 90's easy mo bee tracks

check the link if you dont know bout easy mo bee

agreed... I do love it. subtle but just right. though i did break out my mpc today and grab some old programs off of it and dump to maschine i did notice that when i pitch a sample down the same about as in my mpc or even asr it does not sound quite the same. (odd as i figured that pitching would kinda be standard sounding across the two with or without vintage on, but maschine tends to degrade just a bit more as the sample slows i noticed my hi hats breaking up a bit more)

i dont know really, i was hyped bout vintage emu more than any of the other features but i dont really notice much of difference in terms of sound. then again ive never tried any of them out b4 so it could b just me..

I haven't tested it extensively yet on my own samples but my initial feeling is that the effect is WAY too subtle to notice. I say this as a former Emax owner (which I believe is the same sampling engine as the SP1200), the original hardware adds a layer of low frequency warmth that sounds a little like recording to tape. I also think it would be interesting to have the option to apply the effect at the recording stage with variable sample rates, just like the old machines.

And a few more than two emulations, please? How about Ensoniq EPS + ASR? Maybe even the Casio RZ-1, the beloved Chicago house beatbox?

Sounds nice but I was waiting for a more deeper emulation mode. It's more a filter than an emulation. It could be nice to downsampling the resolution to 12 bits.

I am. It sounds almost the same as my SP12.

With the SP1200, the pitching is exactly what causes most of the characteristic artifacts. Pitching down in SP mode will definitely degrade more than with your MPC. (Are you talking about an MPC60 or a newer model?)

Actually, neither the SP1200 nor the MPC had variable sample rates. The only real "options" with these two machines are the output filters on the SP1200. We were considering the ASR10 but after peforming some fairly extensive controlled A/B tests we determined that the effect was too subtle to be actually worth modelling.

It does. A little less, in fact. Both emulations trace the exact signal flow through the actual machines.

something i dont get, i cant the whole engine be applied to a whole group instead of individual sounds. this would b perfect for a drum group

Unfortunately not to the same effect, because most of the artifacts come from repitching.

TJ you have done a great job on the vintage modes, as flux has said to get that crack on snares the mpc mode is great but for overal warmth i have fallen in love with the sp mode.

for those saying its too subtle , this aint no bit crusher thus leaving you with a unusable effect, this is a stand up emulation of how both the mpc60 and sp1200 work, and i love them both but favour the sp mode (personal prefrence).

its great, well done , NI should add the mpc60 + sp1200 modes into the advertising as there great additions and you guys can be really happy with the results there ace

Now if you use the SP1200 mode and you want to make it even more realistic, then you should only use mono samples as one-shots and each sound should have a polyphony setting of 1. :p

You must have created an account when you authorized the software. Send me a PM with the email address that you registered Maschine on, and I will send you the serial number.

I know the difference between vintage emulation and bit crushing -- not confused about that. It's my opinion that the emulation is subtle and sounds more like very subtle EQing or filtering, which is arguably the only thing happening in those particular machines (SPs, MPCs). I disagree. I think the subjective "magic" occurs at the A to D conversion stage -- a process that is specific to the type of converter used, original bit and sampling rate, etc. NI's emulation, subtle and musical as it is, sounds like an EQ and not much more.

With that said, I've been testing out the different modes and getting some pleasing results (especially with repitching and additional filtering and EQ). Just didn't want to come of like I'm grousing about nothing -- I think NI's is doing everything right in terms of Maschine's continued development and consider things like vintage emulation as icing on the cake.

NI: Bring on more vintage models! RZ-1, Studio 440, ASR, EPS, Emax... Fairlight CMI!
