Why Did Updating Plug-Ins Cause So Many Problems?

OK. So that was a wasted 6 hours! I went to the Native Access site and was going to install a “free” app (I forget what it is now), and Native access said I had a number of “Available Updates”. So I went ahead and clicked to install them, and that’s when the fun part starts.

I launch Studio One and then open one of the projects that I'm in the final mixing/mastering stages on, and some of vocal tracks refuse to make a sound. I double check my routing (all OK), my sound card (looks ok), but decide to reboot using a different sound card. Still no sound registers on some of the vocal tracks. After a lot of back and forth, I try turning off the VC-2A on one of the tracks (I recall this was a NI plug in) and boom—I hear the specific track I was focused on for my trouble shooting. But obviously it’s not at the right volume – it’s too soft.

So I figure that maybe the VST’s didn’t get scanned correctly – though I didn’t change anything versus the last time I updated or installed anything from Native Access. So I rescan…no luck. I tell Studio One to forget the old path and then reinstate the old path…and then rebooted my system and reopened Studio One a few times…and that seemed to partially work - I didn't have to turn off the VC-2A for me to hear volume from the track. But each instance of VC-2A was reset to the factory default.

So I then had to go to EACH instance of VC-2A and change the settings back to what they were before I updated via Native Access. So I went to each track, and tried to recall what setting I had used. I had about 40 instances of VC-2A, so it was a pain.

Then since I wasn’t 100% sure of all of the VC-2A settings, I spent 60 minutes remixing the song, exporting a mix and listening to it on multiple speakers, then back to remixing/tweaking….rinse/repeat, rinse/repeat.

I don’t know why this happened…and I’m really afraid to open up any other projects because the same thing might happen (and I don’t want to remix any of my songs again).

    Anyone know?

    Thanks.
