Why do you continue to use Maschine and buy NI products?

imho those are some of the things draw the line between pro gear and consumer gear. and i'm not willing to pay pro prices for consumer grade especially when it seems to be going nowhere. recordable mutes and solos "on the roadmap" for over 5 years now. and how many sequencer improvements have we seen since this all began? or midi improvements? or arrangement tools? or automation tools? none that i can recall.

so to answer the OP question, i rarely use maschine or buy NI products. there are much better options for me. i like what roland had been doing these past few years. excellent sound and build quality. software that works. affordable pricing.

You obviously must be using it wrong. I do all my tracks in Maschine only and quite a few are getting released on a vinyl label very shortly, and definitely aren't just Soundcloud exclusive.

i'm not doing it wrong. maschine just doesn't work for me. i mostly use hardware synths and drum machines and maschine is not there yet when it comes to working with external gear. and i doubt that it will ever improve. the trajectory that maschine was on from version 1.0 to 1.8 was pretty good. unfortunately things have leveled off since 2.0 and hopes that maschine will someday have the long requested features are fading. also, i'm not the type of person that throws good money after bad. i'm hardly using maschine any more so i'm no longer "investing" in it, unless it's a deal where i can get expansion packs for $10 or less.

good luck with your releases. send me a link, i'd like to check them out.

Fair enough, I understand why it wouldn't work for you, but to make a generalisation that it's only good enough for Soundcloud was a bit off the mark no?

And no problem, I'll send the links over when they're out. All my Soundcloud stuff is private till the actual releases hit the shops. The first one should be out Feb/March and the label is Dixon Avenue Basement Jams :)

oh, sorry. my comment wasn't very clear. i meant to say maschine quality is not pro grade (my studio controller went it for warranty service twice and still the encoders don't feel the same, pad sensitivity varies between pads) but it's good enough for me to make tracks destined for soundcloud. i didn't mean to imply anything about anyone else, or that maschine was only good enough for soundcloud.

Again please let's stop this 'not working for you' terminology again. As though it's somehow the users fault.

It is a known fact that the patterns always loop within a scene . That's a major limitation. There are also major bugs like midi out issue in windows (one example). Then there are performance issues you can run into. DAW integration sucks quite frankly. If you are using Maschine happily then you aren't using these features in your workflow. That's fine by me (good for you). For others it is essential. The idea that these people 'must be using it wrong' when the scenarios are confirmed for all to see is ridiculous.

I love using my Maschine Studio, it's hands down the best groovebox I've ever used. Very fast workflow, incredible sounds, deep integration with even more incredible sounds via Komplete, and the pads are some of the most expressive out there for how I play. Years ago I swore I'd never use NI products again after having all sorts of issues with their plug ins crashing and an overly complex way of authorizing things. They've really turned things around though for me, Maschine is dead stable and I can just get on with recording my ideas.

It's not perfect, no gear ever is when it comes to creating art. But knowing it's strengths and playing to those helped me to create a lot of music I probably wouldn't have otherwise. The benefits far outweigh any niggles I have here and there with it, I think NI did an excellent job on the Maschine Studio over all.

There's times the jog wheel doesn't control what it's supposed to and I have power cycle the controller. The knob caps are a touch loose, and I'm not a fan of shiny black faceplates that attract lots of fingerprints. I can't name things or change colors from the hardware either, which would be nice.

In a perfect world, I'd love for it to be totally standalone. Though of course that would negate one of it's biggest strengths too, in that I can leverage the full power of my MBP when writing grooves and I don't have to worry about CPU limitations like I do with a lot of hardware.

It's not perfect by any means, but as a groovebox meant for people who don't want to use a DAW for their songs, it's pretty darn good I think. Obviously other people disagree if 95% of the posts here are any indication :)

I agree. Nothing is perfect. I think that's what kind of gives these devices their own personalities. I've never had a piece of equipment EVER that did everything I wanted. Maschine does a lot of things really well. I appreciate it for that. I have other programs that handle whatever Maschine can't, and I'm fine with that.

I thought your description was pretty good, I think allot more people would agree if they had more of the experience you've had. Unfortunately I haven't as you know but it will be quite nice once we all get there.
