Why do you think NI went mute on song layer?

I almost hate to ask because it seems like a bad joke now but they seemed pretty excited about it and the Jam as well. Was the Jam a failure and they needed to recoup their losses from another product like sounds.com? Did leadership change? Did they bite off more than they can chew?

    What do you think?

The Jam was a failed product? No, don't tell me that. I just bought one. :-(

I don't regret it as I feel I am getting my moneys worth.

btw -- is that Prince when he was a kid in your avatar? I love that guys stuff.

I‘m pretty sure, Massive X requires NI‘s main focus at this time. They‘re alteady behind their own timetable with it.

And I keep my fingers crossed, while hoping that they‘re developing 3.0 with song capabilities in their multi million research centre...

I watched a video about the development of traktor software recently.

A rep was explaining that in order for them to do a lot of user requests they would have to redesign the software from scratch.

The reps explanation was that when they first developed traktor they used a particular type of code or software development tools that are now outdated as technology has surpassed that time.

Maschine was released 10 years ago last month (would have been a nice time to release a new version of the software or even give back to loyal users somehow?).

So I imagine they are either working on a complete redevelopment of Maschine software using new technologies or they are doing **** all.

If I was NI I'd be making an NI branded DAW marketed at all the cry babies that beg for a linear song mode that integrates with KK, Maschine & Komplete. Clearly there is a market for this.

Honestly I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any song mode or linear daw style recording. I just moved to ableton and I recommend anyone her to also try it if they haven't.

Ableton can definitely get the job done. Even though its my go to DAW, it's like I don't like every DAW out there but I dislike Live the least.

kind of pointless just filling a thread with random guesses when none of us have any actual idea.

all we know is that it was on the To Do List, and then it.... fell to the very bottom if not disappeared entirely.

if I'm forced to guess....... it was much harder to pull off than they realized.

it's silly when people say "massive x is their focus now" as an explanation of why we have no song layer. you realize that completely different people work on these projects, right? they didn't pull the maschine team and re-assign them to massive x.

I’m just wondering if there will be a REAL update anytime soon. I shouldn’t care I guess, but since I’m still invested owning one of their controllers I’m just still curious. My bet is they’re working on a new controller as an excuse to roll out a new version of the software. Who knows..

In the leaked email it was exactly what was stated. We put on hold song layer as we need to focus on sounds.com....

Okay, got it. Would really appreciate this function to prevent to get in loop-mania. Finally, I understand the rumbles about this thing.

Yeah. So lets hope the new update focuses on making the Maschine software product more feature rich and usable.

the most strangest thing; it looks like all is build round one centre: maschine. maschine is given away even with the cheapest keyboard.
    it is there central thing.

perhaps i see it wrong, but therefore it is also strange, that development for maschine is not that fast.... perhaps, now that they have the ecosystem, they grab the centre...

The keyboards never included Maschine and in fact the keyboards don't work anywhere near as well as they could or should with Maschine, or in fact anything else, no matter the inference in their advertising.
If they are going to improve Maschine into something much more usable then cool but I wouldn't bet on it and then of course they'd have to update all their controllers to take advantage..............oh.......... Can I get a Kerching Brothers and Sisters???..................

    No, not exactly.
The leak was about sounds.com being the current focus and the next 'significant' thing to be released, "song mode" had been shown 2 years before, people just assumed song mode never happened because of sounds.com but there's zero evidence that's actually the case... There could be a million other reasons for song-mode/performance-rec not happening in that time span and anyone pointing to a certain cause is just speculating.

Not exactly. You get Maschine Essentials with your keyboard, which is the full versions with less content.
