Why do you think NI went mute on song layer?

Agreed. And, I will admit, I don't know what the hell I am talking about when it comes to programming and coding DAWs, but my guess is, for NI to turn Maschine into a DAW that competes with the big players in the DAW market, it would require a complete rewrite. They might as well build and make a brand new software product.

Which still brings us to the argument of, the DAW market is bloody saturated with players vying for market segment. What possibly could NI bring to the table that would make their DAW stand out and complete in that space? Modern DAWs are filled with a ridiculous amount of features to the brim.

I also called And referred to is as fruity loops based on what it was back in the 00s when I tinkered with it. But I get to see lots of stuff my kid does with it and I watch lots of YT videos on it with him . It's actually a very feature rich DAW. Tons of effects and plugins in it.

+1 My thoughts exactly. Stupid thing is that the rewrite for 2.0 was partly for the use of multi cores and NI failed to make use of hyperthreading.

Honestly I think the fact that Komplete Kontrol is bundled with Ableton light shows that NI will not make Maschine as a standalone DAW.

The same reason why NI went mute on an actual mute function.

I saw that recently and was a bit concerned. I haven't established my optimal workflow yet. I am stucking between cubase and maschine, for other projects I work in studio one (mostly because of the integrated mastering and ddp solution).
I also got Harrison mixbus during a sale, which I haven't used much. But this is a complete other kind of daw.
Sometimes I am a bit lost.
We use Cubase in our rehearsal and record songs. For this Cubase is unbeatable, in my opinion. The functions, Interface and Mixer ist great for "conventional" recordings.

But when it comes to pattern-based music, this is not its strength, in my eyes.

I wonder If there are any videos demonstrating this? Because I'm with you, I want to use Maschine as my primary tool and this 'FL as a VST inside Maschine' sounds interesting.

i am sorry. i am to lazy to make any videos. but look at me screenshot i posted. in fl i place my audio files (when freedom of placement is needed), i route the different sounds out of FL VST into the tracks of the group where FL is loaded as an VST. thats all. nothing to do inside of maschine besides all the processing you want to have control over in maschine (i put filters and stuff on the tracks, which are feeded with audio from FL)....

    that's all :)

Indeed. I really envy FL's Piano Roll and MIDI editing in general, every time I see a pro using it I am like "Dang I wish I could do that in XYZ software"

What do you mean? You want to create a new thread and have your posts moved there? I can do that but I don't think it's necessary, it's not terribly offtopic, just a bit but no one complained.

There's no reason to believe a rewrite is necessary, what I think is more complicated is implementing what most people want without breaking the "Maschine way", many things sound cool but are difficult to adapt to a software where almost everything can be done from the controller AKA Making a linear mode fully controllable from the HW must be a challenge, not even Push-2 can do that, it mostly controls Session View.

IMO What they could bring is the opposite of what everyone else did, a DAW built around controllers instead of controllers built to do some small amount of things in a DAW that was never designed with a controller in mind. I wouldn't mind an extra linear editing mode based on a more keyboard/mouse approach, actually, it's the best of both worlds IMO. One mode is for producing or performing and another to finish and polish a final arrangement, exactly what Live did. (Not sure such an extra mode would make it a DAW tho, that's a bit subjective)
That would piss off the older user base that hates mouses and keyboard but those are a minority anyway...

Being a bit of a dimmy here but I can't work out from this how FL Studio is actually working. How does it relate to the patterns?

Bitwig has created a full on DAW in half the time Maschine has been around. NI has proved it self to be no more then VST and sample pack makers lol

It works with Jam as well. Me and Jr.tried out my Jam on his DAW when I got it. FL is not Fruity Loops that we all remember way back in the 90s. Its a pretty fully functioning DAW with lots of bells and whistles.

I really wish ableton had a similar piano roll to FL. My audio life would be complete.

Allegedly Mr Jesus chap turned water into wine so why should it seem far fetched for NI to turn 'song mode' into beer??.........................
