Why does Kontakt install libraries to a hidden folder on Mac?

One issue I have had with Kontakt since moving to Mac is it's impossible to use the files tab to browse to sample libraries if you keep them where they are installed by default. This is because Kontakt installs sample libraries to a place that is hidden by default on Mac (ie user/library/samples)? I have moved them now but why install them there in the first place?

This is NOT NI' fault... Apple saw fit to HIDE that folder by default... Which is the dumbest thing I have ever ever heard of... It is a typical idiotic feature from Apple that can only have made its way into the release because they had nothing better to do ;-)

Here is how to fix it...

    3 different Ways

    1) In the Finder - Hold the ALT button and click on the GO Menu...
It will now display the Libray

    2) In the Finder hit Shift+Command+G and enter "~/Library" without the quotes

    3) And this is the permanent solution....

Open Terminal (In Finder hit shift+command+U) in that folder you'll find Terminal

Type sudo -s and enter your password when prompted
Now copy and paste this following phrase

    chflags nohidden ~/Library

    then hit enter

This will permanently make your library folder visible,,,

PS -- I do believe you HAVE the option to select WHERE to install the sound libraries from within the installer.... Just check and see

Thanks - I'm not saying it's NI's fault but it does seem strange that they still use that path as default when they must know the libraries will not show up unless you use your third permanent workaround (the others just make it show in the finder but not in the Kontakt files browser). While you can change it at install that requires knowing about the issue in advance, and I didn't at the time being new to Mac.

Apple's strategy is to have all of their products sealed, both hardware and software.

If you read Isaakson's book Steve Jobs you will see that this was was motivated by a desire to present a perfect product. Any outsider going in and messing with the contents would be considered tampering with perfection.

Steve Jobs came up with ideas that would be good for people before they knew how they would be good for them. He fought to bring them from ideas to market when it required training the public to understand they needed what he created.

You may not agree with the concept but it is what motivated Jobs and it explains why things at Apple have been moving in that direction.

You can change the place where the installer puts the sample files on install; simply accepting the default is not the way to go if you have some place else you want to put them. As for NI making this a default they recognize that not everybody has a separate drive to put samples on. I never accept the default for library install if I'm given a chance to put things where I want them.
