Would a plugin sound radically different played in KORE compared to other hosts? Sounds weird but with Concrete FX Kubik this is the case - in KORE something seems to affect the filter response and totally mess up the sound of many patches. Makes me think is this the only plugin that has this problem? - it's the only one I've found so far but up till now I hadn't considered it to be possible so I hadn't been looking - now I will have to compare each plugin and see.

This is the same patch (the first one Syn Reznose) played in Reaper and KORE - the KORE one is missing harmonics, particularly in the top end. Sustain and Release don't sound right either.

So why would KORE be cutting out harmonics and affecting the sound?

Just to show I'm not hallucinating and it's not my speakers or anything I've recorded the same patch in KORE and Reaper. The Reaper one sounds like any other host - but the KORE one sounds atrocious - notice the deadness of tone, lack of sustain and you wouldn't believe it but there's a filter sweep in both but you can only hear it in the Reaper version!

    Backup...

Whenever you have questions like these, you need to back up and just use noise. Instead of using a complicated patch, just try seeing how these programs do with noise and then look at the output. You could try the inputs, then a built in sampler. Reaper has an integrated sampler, and Kore could use Kontakt.

You might try standardizing the noise spectrum first - like a scientific control, then looking at Reaper and Kore. This used to be a trick to show how reason would roll off over 14k - though I don't think it does anymore though I wouldn't care if it did ;)

If the output looks totally identical in every case, then maybe there is something involved with dynamics. I think Reaper may have a higher internal dynamic range - isn't it 64-bit? The demo I made a while back in linux using reaper and NI synths sounded very clear.

Some ideas for a very important topic. Most people would assume things would sound the same! Though I thought apps like protools have a loudness curve on the master output so maybe there are differences ;)

Your problem with Kubik is that it's not receiving clock properly from Kore. Write Jon and ask him for the tempo sync .dll that he made for me.

And, if the synth in your example uses tempo synced envelopes, it could be the same problem. The usual get tempo command doesn't work with some plugins and Kore, for some odd reason.

Thanks I'll try that - how do you use it?

Just replace your normal Kubik .dll with it; all my other hosts use it without any problem. You'll probably want to rename it just Kubik for continuity's sake.

Surely this is something that NI should fix ultimately if it doesn't do something that other hosts do as a matter of course? Any other synths that have this problem in KORE?

The only things I've run into issues with are the ConcreteFX plugs and a previous version of TERA.
