I feel the exact same way, totally kills the efficiency of my workflow. I end up just exporting everything as loops and using my DAW's sequencer to get around this problem.

Here's a thought - let's +1 this over and OVER and OVERRRR again, until it's implemented. Seriously, this is the ONE thing I HATE about Maschine. No automatable mutes or solos, no automation track... no automation envelopes, nothing.

THIS HAS GOT TO FRIGGIN' CHANGE.

    Thanks, all!

    +1 from me.
It's fun to jam with a bunch of loops, but going from that to a full arrangement is a workflow killer... Totally kills the live/spontaneous aspect of Maschine.

Isn't this already doable? Can't one edit the Apc buttons. to send program change messages? at the least I know the aPC20 has a note mode which could do this

    ARRANGER needs improvements and rework.

the maschine limit is on the software side (including the maschine firmware, that its also software code)

At the least, being able to automate this from a host sequencer would be a step in the right direction.

Exactly my thoughts as well. And this is why I started this post. Making full scenes for any little minor changes to your patterns OR parameters is just no good. It's impossible to remember what little variations are in scenes. Also it's no fun! It's great that there are at least 8 macros for a group now but that definitely isn't enough, especially considering you wouldn't even be able to map half of the levels to those for a single group. And those macros are the only automatable things. Maschine would be more than twice as useful if all levels, mutes and solos were directly automatable. And it would 10 times as useful if pattern changes were automatable. And there's no reason why they shouldn't be. We're not talking about a whole lot of parameters here. For pattern changes you'd just need 8 parameter IDs. Each one has an integer range of 1-16 for it's value. Bam, automatable patterns. Not midi. Automation. And then we could change patterns using our Maschine hardware to our hearts content and have all those changes captured. How do you not see this NI?

I think an easy solution to this would be to follow Ableton's set up and just add an additional "song mode" where we would be able to see everything lapsed over time as midi notes, thereby making them automatable over time, and recording into song mode would be done by playing through scenes, kinda how maschine wants us to do it now, except that instead of maschine automatically grabbing all the scenes and playing them one after another (as it is now) it would record into song mode by actually sitting through and playing the song start to finish with live changes being recorded as data into song mode. Bam, problem solved. Right now there is no real way to view maschine's music as a lapse over time except individual patterns and even then you're limited to just the pattern you're selected within a specific group for just those 2 or 4 bars. Ableton and most other professional software programs have a song mode where we can view everything, track by track, as a total view over time from start to finish with a grid for timing. This would solve a ton of user complaints and although it would require a major update, it'll make the industry jizz their pants and finally take this seriously NI. Cmon do it for the people!

While I definitely support this idea, I think it is a VERY different feature request from the problem I'm trying to solve. A song mode would capture automations within maschine (non-repeating type ones), which is useful, however I'm talking about capturing changes in a host sequencer like Ableton live. This way you can make the changes on the Maschine hardware yet have the automation actually written along with everything else in your host, allowing for all-in one editing (inserting time, copying and pasting section and other song editing...).

sounds like I'm not the only one wishing maschine had the one great quality of ableton. I tend to come up with the best stuff when i'm improvising... I can't stand that i have to go back and remember what patterns I switched from, and what notes I muted. It's quite troublesome, really. Another issue I've found is that when you automate an effect, it isn't specific to that pattern. AND once you add an effect, it affects that sound/group regardless of whether or not you have an automation for one part, and only wanted to use it once. If that's not actually the case, then damn i'm a noob. but that's for another topic i guess.

I haven't 100% thought it through - but either allowing multiple, sequential patterns per scene, or recording of pattern changes would work for me. Clearly there would be some tecnical constrains in different length pattersn in different groups, but I'm sure nothing insurmountable! It's funny- before I found this post I wrote up the problem in the technical seaction - seems I drew a similar image to someone here on what a scene might look like (attached).

But without really going through a ton of analysis and debate, I know when i jam, quite offten I do live pattern changes. That's it. I'd like to record these when I want to make a song please!

I've had maschine a month and haven't found a good way to write tracks. I think my best choice is going to be to end up dragging everything to a DAW - but that really sucks.

This is what I currently miss the most when I use Maschine with Ableton Live.

I just started using the 909 emulation from D16 and the way it works there is perfect, and should be easily implementedin maschine:

Create a button called 'Host mode'.
When in host mode, in the Group pull down menu, 'Group MIDI settings' will become available.
Clicking this would open a settings dialog box that will allow you to assign a midi channel (1-16) to any group (A-H)

Clicking on a group will show a list of patterns (1-16) and for each pattern, a box with a list of MIDI notes to choose from.

When this is set up by the user (or even a factory default), he can easily use his Maschine in stand alone mode as a sketch platform, and move into his DAW for arranging, or record MIDI output from Maschine while playing live to be replayed later.
