Why was vienna / berlin pianos excluded from NI products? They're not in Komplete 10u, which to me as completely silly - what damage would it have done to include them?

I don't know the answer, but sometimes there are legal/contractual reasons that some content is licensed via one company and then the contract expires or isn't renewed.

Because they got replaced by three new pianos produced by Galaxy Instruments.

Is there any real difference between them for the average person? Just curious

Completely different sound and functionality, for example.

They sound very different. I think the market for the Classical Piano's was saturated, they were originally in Akoustik Piano from, what, 2005?If you don't have them and you want them, buy Komplete 7, 8 or 9 second hand and then buy an upgrade to 10.Does anyone know what brands the three piano's are?

No one? I'm really curious what piano's they sampled, but I'm going to wait until the upgrade is 50% off.

I've no idea which ones they sampled. They just mentioned the year of production of the piano, but that isn't helping much.

Guess it's in the manual like with the Classical Piano's and the Abbey Road drummers. For some NI products you can download the manuals from the product page but not for the Definitive Piano Collection.

Parallel to the discussion: is it possible to keep the old pianos from K9 when one installs the K10 libraries? Would one have to move the old pianos out of the folder to a safe place and then bring them back in after K10 install? Or can one just pick the new pianos out and just install them?

I've never seen an NI installer uninstall a different product/Kontakt instrument so I think you're safe.

Maybe not uninstall but how about overwrite the whole content folder?

Sure it's possible to keep the old K9 pianos. NI installers never remove older stuff, especially not UNRELATED products. :)

Also the Komplete installer gives you options to select which products you want to install, and where the content folder is going to be, so that's covered.
