    Who is drSync? A programmer?

I have been really disappointed with R3 to say the least. I never expected NI to release a half-baked product, especially considering how much they charge for it. Just read all the other posts around the web and you'll see this is a problem for many people. Save your money and stay away from any Mac Reaktor products.

As far as I know the mac has lots of problems with interupts and multiple processes, atleast thats my impression - I'm no expert but I regularly use r3 on the pc and am amazed to see all this flame-mail on the user lists and forums from mac users. Lets face it, windows is light years ahead of the mac os and probably always will be - if NI have to provide software for both platforms, would you prefer it if they held back features that wont work 100% on the mac - or worse sacrifice more development time to make more individual versions for each platform,,,

You can get a decent £500 pc from dell that will run reaktor like a dream - I remember several people investigating using seperate reaktor dedicated pc's.

Obviously, their weak link is on the Mac side. Whether this is market driven or just beyond their current programming capabilities, who knows?

"Lets face it, windows is light years ahead of the mac os and probably always will be.."

I'm sure others would debate you on that one. Are you including OS X in that statement? OS X is going to be an incredible audio platform with impressively low latency for example. I see a lot of promise in it. Strangely, no mention of future NI products for OS X. Hmmm.

"if NI have to provide software for both platforms, would you prefer it if they held back features that wont work 100% on the mac"

First, they shouldn't advertise a product to have features it can't deliver on [a LONG time after release], which they did in this case. And if they can't create an equivalent for the Mac, they should hire more programmers for the Mac side or drop it altogether.

The latest version of Reaktor is going for $599! IMO, that is going to be a very niche audience that will pay for expensive sound generation software with a buggy history. You could get that PC laptop for almost that, a sequencer or some really good audio processing plugs. A lot of performers are using Max frequently for what it offers. Healthy competition is going to keep products in check, and the playing field is getting bigger. Slow updates, bugs, and lower-priced competing apps will ultimately shakeout Reaktor. This is what's happening right now to the high-end 3D software industry.

"amazed to see all this flame-mail on the user lists and forums from mac users"

Nonexistent (or very poor) customer response, innaccurate marketing, untimely delivery, and poorly implemented software will get that kind of customer response. So I'm curious, is this all happening to the PC customers too?

Yes, it is true that Reaktor has been operating a little bit less than ideally on the Mac. The reason it has taken so long to address the issue is not for lack of attention or resources, but because of the nature of the problem. Reaktor has always been developed on the PC because the PC has a much quicker development time - for instance, when the debug version crashes you are simply deposited back into your programming environment. On the MacOS 9, you must restart and wait up to five minutes for your computer to come up to speed.

We had tried to get a good mac version by adapting the PC Reaktor to run on the Mac. We realized about one year ago that this approach wasn't working too well, and so we virtually rewrote Reaktor to be platform independent. This was not a quick and easy job and took the resources of most of the reaktor team the better part of a year. Now we are extremely close to releasing a 3.07 version of Reaktor that is the result of these efforts, and should provide identical stability and features on the Mac and PC.

3.07 is between one and three weeks away from release.

    Best,

    Jake

    hello there,

i am a pc user and i don't have those problems.
they seem to appear on mac only.

just one thing i want to say.

mac users say, windows is crap.
windows users say, mac os is crap.

both is correct. windows and mac os are powerful and
highly developed, but they are also crap. both of them.

but unfortunately we don't have a better choice.

    best wishes

    Mac/PC/Reaktor

It is not a computer issue of which is better. A computer is only as good as the software that is written for it. In this case, I have to say the PC version of Reaktor seems to be much better and more reliable .I do not see the complaints from the PC world as much as the Mac side..I'm on a Mac G4 dual, but wish it were written as well as the PC ..I payed over 300 bucks for this program and still seems like it is in beta stage for Mac.I think Ni Reaktor 2.3 was even more stable..I tell you one thing I would never bring this program out for live shows!! Maybe Ableton, who makes one of the best computer stable programs (Ableton Live/Germany),can help NI make Reaktor work properly on Apple platform..I cannot even try to make Abeton Live crash..Wicked program for Mac/PC..No I do not work for them either just respect good work when it is there!!

Identical Mac & pc Reaktor features?

Does this mean that i will be able to run multiple instances of Reakor as a VSTi at last, as with the PC version, or will i still have to use Version 2.3?

    OSX ?

    so what's up with osX

i've been checking out ableton live for osx, and while a very different style program with very different uses than reaktor 3.0, the stability and interaction with the operating system is no less than astounding...recently i was told it would be next winter before reaktor made it's way over to osx...that can't possibly be good for the mac market...

i will say that i have gotten a lot of use out of reaktor, and like a lot of the new features in 3...but as someone else stated, live usage is scary....and i stray away from it...which is unfortunate, because the programmability is there, and the potential for excellent live performance is there....but crashes, freeze ups, strange occurences and non-working stuff in general keeps from there and starts me looking around....

make me want to stay a customer!
    get OSX!
    get some stability!

    thanks.

I know you've been waiting a long time for this. This feature will come for Mac with Reaktor 3.3. Best,

The question is how long do we have to wait? It has been forever since it was announced. Maybe Mac users will get the 3.3 fix when they announce version 4? I'm at the point where I am thinking of selling my Reaktor because I feel like I've been ripped off.
