Ok so im going to purchase a Behringer 1622FX 16-Input 2/2 Bus Mixer with Effects and USB as it has a built in audio interface, effects, and can use it to mix music...

sole purpose is the built in audio interface as well as effects...

i am also purchasing pro tools 8...will the two work together?

i thought i read somewhere that PT 8 will only work with other m-audio software?

should i be okay w/ the behringer mixer/audio interface and PT 8? looking to make purchases this week so any input help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Pro tools 8 will only work with digidesign or M-powered soundcards e.g Mbox, 002, 003. M-audio soundcards need pro tools M-powered to run under protools 8.
Pro tools 9, however, will work (theoretically) with any soundcard.

kraster is correct...don't buy pro tools 8 as it is limited to work only with specific hardware. version 9 however will work with any audio interface.

thanks fellas...but will i not be able to use machine to capture vocals from the audio interface, then turn around and use PT8 to edit any/everything FROM MASCHINE as opposed to recording vocals from PT8..

i just cant see spending $600 for PT9 when PT8 is only 200...smh

I've tried using Pro Tools before. Never was able to see what was so appealing about it.

    wat do you use?
    ---
    wat do you use?

i need a DAW as i cant see Maschine be the end all be all when it comes to making good masters/tracks...

i kno there is some criticism with PT being the industry standard...but i just need a GOOD DAW and would really like to use PT(no experience yet)

i think its crazy i wouldnt even be able to use my own audio interface within PT...

and thinking it would also be senseless to not be able to record in PT and instead use maschine as that would be one of the main things getting it for...

am i missing something or would recording directly into Maschine then moving to PT work? smh at on m-audio equiptmen will work. Glad i at least hav an oxygen 49 key midi keyboard made by m-audio...smh...S M H...now i have to question whether or not i am actually going to purchase PT..i cant see myself spending $600 for PT9...

    /sorry for the rant

I use maschine mainly as a performance/scratch pad to get an idea started. Then take the idea linear inside Sonar.
Not that I think Sonar is better than the next daw I just personally like the workflow of it. It makes sense to me. Demo some apps and find the one that resonates with you and makes you go "ahh that makes sense" and learn it inside and out. ProTools hardware limitations just made learning it seem like, too big a commitment to me.

You can use Maschine within protools and other DAWs as a plugin.
You don't have to keep switching between them.
The reason that Pro tools 9 is so expensive is that Avid have to make up the shortfall of not selling it bunded with their own hardware. That's just business.
For a cheaper alternative have a look at Reaper. It'll do most things Protools will do and costs 40 dollars..

i understand i can use masc. within pro tools...just wandering if i can record vocals in maschine...and THEN edit them in PT8...will that work?

ive heard of reaper...but for the price tag..is PT worth it? the so called.."IINNDDUUSSTTRRYY SSTTAANNDDAARRDD"?

You can record anything into Maschine but workflow wise it's not the best solution by any stretch.
I wouldn't recommend it. It's better to record Vocals etc. directly into the DAW.

Protools is the best multitrack audio editor out there imho. I know others might not like it but I have yet to come across anything that beats it in that department.
Reaper is a very good program. The learning curve is steeper than Pro Tools but is a steal at the price. It will host VST plugins like Maschine and for 40 dollars you get free updates for the next two versions.
You can try it out for free too.

If you have never used pro tools, you won't really be missing much.
That goes x ten times if you are fairly new to daws. Pro tools does have tools and functions that make audio processing more user efficient, but if you are going to bumble your way around a daw it will be of no benefit to you cost or time wise. Not to mention pro-tools has a reputation of being the least vst friendly of all the major daws.
