Will Traktor give us the standalone controller of our dreams?

I am in love with the user interface on the S5 and think that they could change the game with an S5mkII that features standalone capabilities like the Pioneer XDJ-RX and recently announced XDJ-RX2!

Has anyone thought of how game changing that would be for Traktor finally cutting the cord from the laptop?

 

Simply not going to happen. They don't seem to be able to fix simple known faults within the existing software so how do you think they'll find the resources to build an ecosystem like Rekordbox from the ground up?

 

I totally agree .. likely not gonna happen anytime soon. If you want to cut the cord on a laptop that make the switch to Pio. Its not a bad option.

 

Yea but pleas let the S5 work with out Traktor being in the foreground. Why does it have screens when you anyway need to have the Traktor software facing you??I both it to use it with Ableton, so PLEASE make it running as well with Traktor sitting in the background!!!!!

 

If you're talking about the screens freezing when Traktor is fullscreen and you switch to a different app, that's a macOS limitation, so you need to complain to Apple, not NI. If you don't run any apps in fullscreen it can be in the background just fine.

 

Technically it's Native Instruments who chose to move their working "full screen" over to Apple's "full screen space" implimentation. I have proven this by running one of the first versions of Traktor that supported the S8. This still uses what I call "classic full screen" where it just expands on the desktop space over whatever is there. The screens on the S8 do not freeze when you CMD/TAB to another application.

This is a bug that I have filed with them through the beta programs, they are aware of it but so far have not given us the option of "classic full screen" or the new "full screen app (space)".

Oh I will trie this out tonight. If it's just a fullscreen issue, I at least would have a work around to use ableton or maschine together with traktor. wonderful

 

TP 2.7.1 was the first release to support the S8 so I'm sure that one uses the older "classic full screen", I'll need to go back through my installs to work out when it changed.

 

TP 2.8.1 was the last version with "classic full screen" that doesn't put Traktor in its own space.

Please make sure that you use the full screen button within Traktor in the top right corner, or tick the "full screen on startup" in preferences, do not use the green button top left as this will put it in its own space.

This is only good for S8 and D2 owners, it will not work with the S5.

 

@frankle well what do you know, I was just playing with the latest 2.11.1 beta and it seems to have actually solved the screen freeze issue. Maybe someone else can test to confirm, but when I use 2.11.0 and switch to a different space they freeze, with 2.11.1 they keep going Not sure what NI did to fix it or if they are even aware of it, but kudos to them.

 

I’ll give it a shot later tonight. I put in a very detailed bug report last beta (ages ago) and it got a high priority to be fixed. Would hav ethought that they’d let us know about that one if they’ve actually fixed it!

 

Well I'll be ... they've fixed it! You can now use Traktor in Full Screen and 3 finger swipe to another "space" or app and the screens don't freeze!

I'm sure that this solution was due to pressure from the Maschine Studio people as the same thing happened there when using Maschine in full screen.
