    Hi all,
and thanks for taking the time to read this ..

i have an s4 midi and am happy with traktor pro software ,
HOWEVER i am about to buy a Z2 so i can plug my cdj 1000 mk3's into it .

Will i have to totally migrate my music over to traktor scratch in order to use the timecode cd's?

And while I'm asking can i manually write /label my hot cues in a drop down section on scratch ( which i can do on pro)

    many thanks for you replays

you are gonna have to upgarde your software you can't use digital vinyl without the scratch pro software and yes you can do everything its the exact same program but with vinyl control

Thank you both for your quick replies .
So scratch it is ... it looks pretty much the same as pro so will be easy to navigate .

The only downside to this is ( i assume ) as it is a completely new programme i will loose all my marker points , cues and notes that i have pre set in traktor pro 2 ?

i wonder if i can drag a drop ( with say both pro and scratch open on half pages ) track over ..
it sucks to loose all the years of marked up music

    cheers

ps Keo. like the logo ...

Hey Clemo, Traktor Pro and Traktor Scratch Pro are the exact same software the only difference being that the Scratch licence unlocks the DVS capability. You will not loose any of your marker/cue points or notes made in Pro 2 or have to do anything like dragging files from one to the other. When you upgrade to Scratch you can just use your existing music files as normal and your tracks will be all good to go!

    FloydB ..
    Thanks man ..

that really helps me make the migration to scratch .
Now the only decision is :-

    Traktor Z2 or Pioneer DJM T1 ...

    any thoughts ?
there is a thread on here but it goes way off topic !.
Seems to be love for both of them .

Pioneer carries the name but Traktor carries the know how ?

I think that decision is really going to come down to your own personal preference between two very competent mixers. There does not seem to be too much to separate them from a performance point of view, although the Z2 should work more seamlessly being built by NI. If you are able to test each one out for your self before making the final decision that would be the only advice I can offer really. The bonus is that whichever one you do choose, I'm sure it will serve you well.

    Cheers Floyd.

Yep ... need to check them out in person .
The T1 appears to be a much older unit . But the Z2 build quality is a let down.
A while a ago i would have been very anti Traktor ( as their back up service was appalling ) but i think this may have been improved . I love what they make , its very much ahead of the game ...

Also this forum makes the world of difference , Proper decent community on here . So if it goes a bit wrong i know i can give a quick shout !. so i am edging towards the Z2 ... but as you say go check em out .

So you're aware the djm 850 and 900nxs will also work with serato. Nice to have that option. I have the 850 and find it to be a great mixer.

    Cheers Double A .

Ive not really looked into Serato too much ... the price of the 800 and 900 nexus has always frightened me off !.

No doubt. But the t1 should also be in that ball park.

since your last post i have made a few calls regarding your idea of 800 900
. The T1 has been discontinued , The Z2 is still current
the 800 and 900 nexus are fantastic pieces of kit ... just that bit to far beyond my price bracket .
but hey thanks for the post ...

    i would love that 900 nexus .

I hear you. I was in the same boat as you. Had a s4 but wanted to go with vinyl. I ended up getting lucky and found a new 850 on eBay for about 100 more then the z2 of run me. But I'm sure the z2 will be a good purchase. Maybe wait for another sale..they seem to go on sale every couple months.

yeah that would be the one.
Thing is i had got to get on this pretty quick ,
I've got a boat party organised with a pretty big namesand they have pulled the traktor snobbery on me ...
got all premo about not using traktor , so if i provide my CDJ 1000mk3's a Z2 then they can;t get all high and mighty on me .
I can then also use my midi ( if i need to ) or learn timecode pretty quick and use my Cdj's .

i really look at cdj's as a step backwards as in the amount of stuff they cant do . that is unless we could all afford cdj 900 / 2000's and a swanky mixer ... then we would be in equal software territory ... but hey i ain't got a spare £3000 kicking around to please this Dj!.
and rekordbox doesn't allow manual marking of tracks yet .. so traktor is still way ahead.

really appreciate your thoughts and input though .... maybe one day for 850 ... i can dream .

I dunno the Z2 I have is flawless haven't had any issues with the crossfader or any other part of the mixer and I have taken it out alot. There are things you should do though. The first is always turn on your mixer before plugging in your laptop some people have had issues doing it the other way. The mixer only uses 48kHz you can't change it to 44 or 96. As far as build quality its heavy and sturdy older models had problems with the cross fader but they have since addressed that.

Word of advice when you get your new hardware and upgrade your software put it through its paces don't play around with it for 3 minutes do a good long set to see if you have any issues before doing a gig. People never do this and when they have issues they are shocked for some reason, always test your new gear!

    Keo & All ,
    Thanks for your advise .
just bought a Z2 . All new and fresh out the box .
Face plate looks pretty sound . I wonder if they have changed the paintwork on it . It is matt finish .
Anyway its about to get installed and then put through its paces .
(well thats after i have learned what to do )

off to find helpful youtube videos on installation and what the difference is between pro and scratch ..
and hope that scratch can import pro without having to do anything in settings like Keo said .

    cheers all

hi guys .. bit of a shout out for help ...
i am kind of set up .

    BUT FAILING MISERABLY .
running Z2 with cdm 1000mk3 . ( both of these are new to me )
having just come over from MK S4

    1ST problem
    my timecode cd's are in
    calibrate says skipping
it shows a very messy blue circle with a flickering yellow line in it .
it also say low level ground hum ? from what i have no idea.

    2ND Problem
the BPM on the CDJ is running at max 176 and minimum of 146 on the CDJ visual and only 112 on the computer screen.
With the computer screen tempo fader all the way to the top .
Tempo reset on the CDJ is 160 BPMs

This is making mixing impossible .even the sync wont pull it back
and when the deck finishes play it goes back to external play ( REL / INTL turns green from orange)

I am way put of my depth on this ... slightly regretting my CDJ and Z2 purchase .

Is this all a timecode issue ?

    many many thanks in advance

    cheers I'm noDJ

done that and turned the % down to 8 . at 90 to 145 but still it bangs out the timecode cd on the cdj at 160 ...
making it very difficult to correct the tempo as the range is so high . a little move and it bends by 5 to 7 % .

I'm more used to mixing tracks at 120 not 160 to 180 ....

when i stick standard cd in the cd j it runs at normal speeds .. so it must be in my preferences but i just cant find it .

surly timecode cds don't run at 160 ? do they

    cheers again ,
    a very broken clemo
