Hi everyone. I just purchased Kontakt 2 and am new to sampler programming. I am a wind controller player ( Nyle Steiner EVI and James Morrison MDT ) and want to use Kontakt and my laptop on upcoming gigs. How do I get samples to respond dynamically to breath control CC2 ? I've tried linking CC2 to volume and setting an external volume modulator to CC2. All I achieved was getting the virtual volume knob to twirl as I blew, but no change in sound was heard. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would strongly recommend that you use MIDI automation which for reasons unknown I think to anyone, including NI, gives much better dynamic range.

In the browser click Auto, then (just below it) Midi Automation.
Click on #002, drag to the volume knob on the Amplifier panel (not the main volume control at the top), do this for each group that you want it for (or set Edit All Groups). If the "assigned to" list below has an entry with "-" under group, remove it. Soft Takeover off (unless you want it)

Don't assign any ccs in the amplifier panel to modulate volume.

Make sure that under "Instrument Options", Use Standard Controllers for Vol & Pan is unticked (this is probably the cause of your silence)

Set master volume (top right) to give the best range without overloading.

Thanks, Stephen! That worked like a charm. I'm now hearing some abrupt shifts in dynamics when I move between notes. I assume I need to adjust how Kontakt triggers new notes or retriggers a note. Any/all programming tricks are greatly appreciated!

Are you using an adhsr envelope? I find an attack time of around 100msec, depending on the attack in the sample itself, together with a release time of ~ 600msecs gives a smooth legato with my WX5. All settings between to maximum. I also have a bit of reverb from an external source (bringing volume down to zero silences Kontakt's release tail and reverb).

There is a bug in Retrigger (at least in the demo version): until they fix it, have Retrigger on.

BTW: same behaviour with PAN sliders (CC10) in FLStudio!
