    Hi,

I'm having to re-build my PC and have been considering trying out Windows 7 RC. Has anyone had any experiences with using Reaktor on Windows 7?

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Seems OK

Didn't get any replies, but gave it a try anyway and though I'd post my findings.

Installed had a good play around for a few hours, no problems whatsoever.

Works fine as standalone and within Cakewalks Sonar 7PE.
This is with the 32 bit version.

    Eric.

Where can I get Windows 7 Trial and how much does the upgrade cost? Couldn't find it on official webpage.

    Hi,

    The page is here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

In the download section, 32 and 64 bit versions available; I'm trying out the 32 bit one.

Please read the 'Read this first section'. Especially take note of the following:

Please plan ahead for the Beta and RC expiration dates. To avoid interruption, you'll need to rebuild your test machine using a valid version of Windows before the software expires.

I take this to mean that after it expires next year, a complete rebuild is necessary, not a simple update to the full version.

I gave it a go because I had to rebuild a PC which previously had XP on it, and thought I'd see what it was like.

Reaktor, Absynth, and Sonar work fine so far. Though I have come across one problem, Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars has no sound. But that means more time for making music/strange squelchy noises :)

Oh, I've just checked, it isn't compatible with my Presario C700.. :(

You might be surprised; I'm running Window 7 on my old Toshiba Satellite--didn't do the check first, since I had nothing to lose, it was getting increasingly quirky anyway; I couldn't depend on it for gigs and stuff and I am planning to replace it, so it's a handy lab rat.
Depends if your Presario is your main PC or not. MS says not to run the RC on your main PC anyway. I don't plan to; maybe to test the drivers right before I do the real Win7 install.

ericy - any luck with this now you've had longer to evaluate? I'm hoping to upgrade to Wndows 7 64-bit from Vista in a few weeks and hoping that it'll work...

    Hi,

Have come across one minor problem that occurs when loading new samples into a sampler based ensemble.

It happens after the analysis message - see attachment. If the ownership and permissions are not set for the file or file location, then it will not save. Trouble is, it doesn't give you and error message. Spent half an hour wondering why new samples weren't appearing :-(

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hi,

Only found one problem so far, to do with permissions on samples, see previous post.

Apart from that, no problems at all.

    Cheers!

    Eric

ah thats good, I can upgrade with some confidence then.

maybe they'll be patching Reaktor 5 to fix any minor issues with OS compatibility on Windows 7 anyhow

or better still, Reaktor 6 ;)
