Windows XP Service Pack 2

Is there a risk that Absynth might have problems with SP2? Or can we go ahead with the update once it is available?

 

There have been reports concerning difficulties with firewire devices, so if you're using an external firewire drive, maybe you want to look into that.

There are threads discussing this at KvR-vst.com that seem to be devided on opinion regarding the impact of the SP 2 on DAW stations, but I have not seen anything conclusive at this point. You can check these thread discussions yourself by browsing the 'hardware set-up' section of the KvR forum.

I myself am holding back waiting to be sure that there are not consequences of upgrading.

It bears mentioning that SP 2 addresses less than 3% of the Windows code & is 99% security related. More than likely, you will have done one of the 3 following things that make this update essentially unneccessary:

1 - Your DAW station will not have a connection to the internet, hence, you do not require this SP at all.

2 - You DAW station IS connected, but you have long since learned the value of 3rd party anti-virus/firewall/spam-blocker/spyware blocking software & are accordingly protected from such annoyances.

3 - You have been using your DAW station to browse the internet un-protected & as a result of your machine bineg taken over by every other bannanna bread commercial site & it's step kids using your machine to mass spam prOn sites to email addy's, you are now posting this inquiry using a hacked short-wave radio to transmit your Alpha waves.
