there is a nice trick for w98se (and below) users to reduce the time needed for the f* reinstall problem (WINDOWS not reaktor - reinstall problem).

SAVING
make a copy of the "windows" folder immediately after your basic windows installation. (copy name should be short and must be on the same disk. be sure to have the virtual memory file on a different partition).
do this every time later you want to have a "virgin" copy of your system configuration.

LOADING
restart your pc in msdos mode. on the command line, rename your "windows" folder to "winold" (or whatever). rename "winnew" (or whatever) to "windows".
restart your pc.

time warp!

be careful and please do not things you dont know what they will cause on your system....

 

multiple!

this enables you (if you dont know already) to have multiple configuratins on one w98 system (since im a real new xp user, i dont know whether this may work in a similar way with newer v´s). simply create different copies of your windows folders. (maybe you want to have 2 "really different" configurations, maybe a graphic station (with 1000 scripts installed) and - of course - a "pure" reaktor audio station with only reaktor & audio drivers installed. have you ever recognized, windows slows down after 1/2 a year of use? (yes, or you would not read this thread anymore...) copy the "pure" installation windows folder to "winreact" etc......

When you reinstall the same OS, you will not need a new key, you can just enter the old one again (so don't delete the registration mail).
