I almost wanna pull the trigger .. But I can't help thinking that with all the major product updates rolled out(komplete 10 & keyboards, maschine 2.0 & the new studio hardware, S8 controller itself..), TP3 is right behind the corner. I Think within 6 months NI will give TP a major design overhaul.. So I'm not sure it's the best time to invest 1200$ on a new flagship controller that might be out to date in 6 months or so. Sure it'll work with TP3, but it might not have all the features accessible from the controller itself(freeze mode for example is not present on my X1 MK2). As with every major software release NI is likely to push a new shiny hardware.. Is it a good time to buy the S8 now? Let's talk about it!

i think this ISthe shinny new hardware. i cannot remember the time line but didn't machine 2.0 and studio follow the same route the hardware came with new features then the software update. but i am thinking the X1 MK2 will be upgraded in the software to control the freeze when it comes out

Duh.. That's what I'm saying dude! I know the S8 will ship with 2.7.. All i'm trying to convey here is that a major Traktor release is likely to occur during mid/late spring.. So.. Again, I'm worried to invest in a 1400$ flaghip controller now when there is obviously a major software update coming six months later or so..

Surely though they are working on TP3 at the moment and have this in mind as they do it. If you look at the MK1 Kontrol X1, this has gotta be five years old now and I still see it in a lot of people set ups.
I personally upgrade about every 18 months, and as I look after my equipment, keep the box etc, I usually get 2/3rds of my investment back which then goes towards the next item.
I just sold my Pioneer DDJ-SX as they are bring the SX2 out, I had this for about 20 months and still got 2/3rds back as it was in great condition. It was only by chance (or was it) that news about the S8 came out before the SX2 got released, so I had to see which one was more suitable for my needs, and in the end it was a bit of a no brainer.... So tonight I put my order in for the S8 :)
