He's gotten so awesome in such a short amount of time.
I used to go see him a Grand Star in chinatown(LA) like a year or two ago and he was way different. I have mix Ep he put out on Obey records that won't play anymore cause I played it so many times.

    Sick

Yeah I hear that, GLK was the first artist in this Musical Field that I discovered and he's by far my favorite. I'll give FlyLo all the credit he deserves but man, there's something so gnarly about GLK's breaks, I just can't get enough.

    Anyone notice this yet?

I downloaded the free sample pack, not that impressed with it but it does give ideas for some broken rhythms.

Hey BlackMath this is sick. I could definitely bang this.

In other news, I was DJing last night at a bar in Berlin and someone stole my audio card. I'm totally bummed. Oh well.

Yeah I saw that loop library on Rekkerd. I thought it was pretty funny. Not so good sounds though? Eh, I guess it's kind of a good thing cos it kind of legitimizes the sound. Right?

Yeah I agree hclc, its definitely trying to put a system on the on how the drum sounds are laid out and I just can't get down with it...plus all the gooves are waaay too fast and they're totally quantised...but then again I only have the free demo pack...there MIGHT be some decent synths on there, but who knows.

I say we keep the movement alive by making our sounds!

Yeah man. I love making sounds. I think when I first got into Massive is when I really felt it. What a crazy synth. Although I have some others that I love too.

    — — —

Here's a little trick that a friend taught me. Make a sub bass with the synth of your choice, record a few seconds of it with a very fast attack. Harshly EQ out everything over like 90hz. Export.

What he does is layer it underneath all of his kicks to fatten them up a bit. As he says, "I hate wimpy kick drums." Me too.

Now what I do load that sub bass sample into Maschine and layer it on any pads with kick drum samples using the map editor (it's easier to do in the software). Instant fat kicks.

You might need to EQ the kick drum sample to cut off anything frequencies that are conflicting with the sub bass sample. Or EQ the sub bass sample. Whichever works for you.

However, he did mention to me the kick drum sample and the sub bass should be in tune. Otherwise you will get clicks or weird phasing issues. But I haven't had a problem.

    loving this thread

interesting that you have mentioned GLK, but for me he is not that wonky

for me this is very much coming from the Dubstep tradition.... but thanks for the link it was good to see/hear:)

anyway imho flylo is much more wonky... but hopefully you will say why GLK is wonky ;)

anyway here is flylo with Dorian Conept:

Oh yeah, that's that stuff man. Wish I had a bass guitar. I think that GLK plays some wonky stuff in his sets. And on the Gonja Sufi album he has some pretty wonky production. So it's debatable. Man I need to work less and bang beats more.

Sowari, you are correct, GLK is a bit more dubstep than Wonky as he tends to use Breaks a lot instead of stuttered rhythms...but I found out about him thru FlyLo so I just mash the two artists together in my mind ;)

Hclc, I'm in the states. Baltimore, Maryland to be exact. Oh and I do have a bass guitar:) Interested in a collaboration? pm me for my email address.
