When playing around with Traktor DJ, I ran into this problem. I found a solution/workaround, which I'd like to share. May be it's super obvious or I'm just stupid! but I still like to share the approach in case others are wondering.

With Traktor DJ you can't control the speed of each deck individually. You can align one or both tracks to the master speed. But it's impossible to set them to different speeds manually - OR, for that matter, to set them to the same speed *without* enabling sync on BOTH decks.

Now, why would that be a problem?

I often run one track while I want to trigger slices in the upcoming! for example during a break. The thing is, with sync on on the upcoming/not playing track, slice triggers are quantized and I just can't get Traktor to trigger precisely - often, it skips the beat because I'm just a fraction to late with my finger.

But when you turn off sync on the upcoming deck, you can't easily play longer parts - they won't be sync. Or so I thought.

My very simple solution is, instead of letting Traktor magically sync both tracks to the master sync OR sync the new track to the current one (which would be my classic turntable move), I now sync the current track to the speed of the new one (sync on on current, and off in the upcoming). Starting the new track on beat is pretty easy to achieve without auto-sync.

May be my brain is just torn and this is the "usual" way to do it, but my approach was always vice-versa.

So, with only one of two tracks set to sync, you still can't control both of them individually, but at least have them running at the same speed with one track not being in auto-sync, thus enabling free slice triggers. Neat.

Of course this only works if both tracks are close enough in BPM.

    Sorry, won't by an S2 (yet ;)).

oh an please, NI, add pitch and speed control for individual tracks. pretty please :D - or a switch disabling quantization for everything when a track is frozen.
