That video is excruciating. I am Especially turned on by the part where they cut to a microscopic view of the traktor scratch vinyl and compare resolutions. What is this mr. wizards' world.

Understandably, I can feel your pain when you speak of a distaste for NI's promotions. But .... these are obviously geared for mass distribution and selling to that market. Im just really glad that Im not using this software on a playstation.

I see Vinylzen's point when he speaks of being bored with a demo video. I am obsessed with plastic man's sound for some reason and looking at the human being that created that sound and watching his human/actions holds a strange fascination for me. Otheriwse I would probably be bored with the hawtin scratch video as well.

This is in response to vinylzen's question's, let it be known that I am not paid by anyone in the below mentioned:

    A) When looking at Native Instruments as a whole, I feel their marketing strategies for their software as well as hardware are one of the most intelligent out on the market right now. I look at the history with Kontakt, Reaktor and their work with Stanton's Final Scratch which evolved to Traktor Scratch. The way their products evolve along with their advertising campaigns keeps not only the celebrities happy, but most of us "little guys" as well.

    B) I do not look at celebrities endorsing products as a means to fool the general public. Yes, sometimes a celebrity will be paid a lot of money to just stand and smile and say what a wonderful product the company that has paid them to promote is. In the case of Richie Hawtin, I do not feel that this is the case. When looking at Richie's past to present I see Plastikman, Plus 8, Minus, and the DE9 series. All of which I feel are quality products to those who appreciate that particular genre. To those who may or may not, can you still to this day visualize what the Plastikman logo looks like? I am sure the Native Instruments team takes elements such as these into consideration when selecting a human figure to speak about a particular Native Instruments product.

It's funny you mention their involvement with Final Scratch. You've probably seen a rather lengthy video with DJ Solomon showing what FS can do. [ame="http://youtube.com/watch?v=9qfho2N2aZA"]YouTube - FINALSCRATCH 2 Demo Video[/ame]
And as many fellow DJs know already, Solomon switched to SSL shortly after the endorsement and is still very much in the Serato boat. But that was (hopefully) on Stanton's part so lets move on.

In my opinion, I think NI is better off not putting any promotions at all. Interviewing someone who supposedly uses it instead of demonstrating the product itself is just pretty weak to me.

I bought TS because of its own merit. But even the slightest thought that I succumbed to NI's ridiculous advertising is downright embarassing.
