I do see your point also as one who stuck with it. What do you think about adding fx paddles on the x1? It could function like the paddles with midi lfo like on the pioneer s7. To be honest the new x1 doesn’t have to be like the old one.

Is there anything anybody would miss if it was taken away? Or is there anything on the old x1 you wouldn’t mind parting with in place for something new?

If Ni plans to put a screen on something they should go all the way and just make a whole deck instead.

I think paddles would probably be a good addition although I think they would necessitate a deeper unit which I don't see an issue with.
2 rows of 3 performance pads maybe although not something I would use other than for accessing cue points in the same way I do now.

I'd miss the touch strip.... I like and use the touch strip A LOT.
It has got me out of some tricky situations at wedding gigs when the dance floor has too much movement and the turntables don't track very well. I can mix fairly competently with the touch strip when tracks have fluctuating BPMs. I would be very sad to lose that but I know people will disagree.

Honesty, I know people love screens, but I don't need them on the X1.
Quite honestly, if NI updated the Z2 to incorporate an X1 and added a second microphone input with dedicated EQ, I'd probably shelve the X1 anyway but that's another can of worms so let's not go there

Not exactly the X1, but here's an initial mockup I've made with illustrator of a D2 MK2 which I'd love to happen!
Wider than the original D2, but with all this extras...
    • Dedicated Mixer FX / Filter knob
    • Larger screen
    • Tempo Fader
    • Industry standard Play + Cue positions
    • Loop in/out dedicated controls
But also, I'd love that the A/B/C/D buttons where RGB to allow and give feedback fo the following combinations:
    • Hold Deck button to quickly select the controlled Deck (buttons in the color of each deck)
    • Hold FX Select to select the top FX unit that is controlled (buttons in orange)
    • Hold Mixer FX button to select the Mixer FX that is being controlled (buttons in the Mixer FX colors)
    • And finally, this one is trickier but... Hold REC button to control the Loop Recorder (buttons in green)
I believe that like this you could have a lot of control over Traktor and all its decks. Of course there are things missing (dedicated Key Adjust controls / dedicated Tempo Range controls, for example, this could surely be implemented in some way)
    Happy to hear feedback!

And here's the same concept but with a slight modification... No dedicated Mixer FX on this one, however... But as you can see, the encoder has been moved out of the screen section --> Way larger screen, and is centered (important fr the FX & Performance knobs/buttons).
On my dreams, this large screen is a touchscreen:
    • Better browse navigation/experience + ability to input text (on-screen keyboard)
    • KeyLock controls when pressing the Key box field at the right of the stripe
    • Key adjust controls (CDJ-3000 style, for example)
    • No need for dedicated buttons on the side of the screen (as done on the S5/S8/D2s)

    It will depend on features.
Standalone? It should go around 1000€ with almost 2 deck control.
Just controller? Put class compliant on it and we can talk around 500€ (which is where second hand mk1 are more or less)...
iPad compatible (including the screen or ditching it in favour of iPhone/iPad)? Show me the updated Traktor Dj 2 app (or Traktor Pro 3 running on Apple Silicon) and we can talk too... if the price is right ditching the screen.

    None of these? 0 euros.

I would presume that if the Maschine MK3 is 600€, and the Maschine+ is 1200€...
A new model (if with standalone capabilities, which would be AWESOME, a natural next step for the product designed back in the days) would go around/higher than that considering the original price of the D2... needless to say that the price of similar products (Pioneer CDJ or Denon SC series) are higher...
If it was just a controller (more realistic expectation, despite the new Maschine+), around 700-1000€, depending on the size/type/quality of the screen.
Anyway, we’ll see how/if this surveys turn out into a new product, but let’s not forget that there are thousands of Traktor users with different wishes/expectations/requests...

Competency was higher in price (think in Z2 or S8) vs features. M+ has gone a bit step up but improving quality materials and embedding a computer inside so I keep my numbers (aside M+ is 1.158 euros now at thomann from the 1700-1500 from its release).
Also take in mind Apple Silicon due competency is working at this moment, no waiting for NI... and Denon Prime:Go mk2 with some of these features (DVS input or Phase-like support, Stem separation...) will be around these numbers (1200€) and it's more feasible to happen than D2/S8 standalone...

I have the best suggestion for x1, don't do it at all.
Let's you better implement about 40 functions on this browser thread:
    https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/suggestions-for-browser.403581/
which we have put together with the DJs of this forum. This list includes multiple links and suggestions from this forum over the past 10 years, this is not only my list, it also provides links to various suggestions from other DJs on here.

And so, I presented the Traktor Pro X4 with all these improvements, to be honest - it's great.

Why do we need another plastic box with handles, while the heart (the control center) is simply completely forgotten

Thumbs down from the mads members ;)

NI has a lot of work more priority than release a new X1. It could be just my opinion or maybe an educated analysis. Time will tell us but if the rumour of Logic for iPad becomes a reality it will arise even more the flaws of NI strategy and stagnation. That Logic will probably a LE version vs Desktop but it will show the path to all brands wanting to be relevant in the Apple arena...

Apple announced its plans to shift the Macintosh platform to Apple silicon in a series of WWDC presentations in June 2020.[29] The entire transition of the Macintosh product line is expected to take "about two years", with the first ARM-based Macs released by the end of 2020.[30][1] Similar language was used during Apple's 2005–2006 transition to Intel, which actually took about one and a half years.[25]

All Apple apps included with macOS Big Sur release are compatible with x86-64 and ARM architectures. Many third-party apps are similarly being made dual-platform, including prominent software packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Microsoft Word.[30]

To enable x86-native software to run on new ARM-based Macs, Rosetta 2 dynamic binary translation software is transparently embedded in macOS Big Sur.[25][1] Universal binary 2 enables application developers to support both x86-64 and ARM64.[31][1]

To allow developers to prepare their software for a smooth user experience on ARM-based Macs, they were given the option to sign up for a one year membership to the Universal App Quick Start Program which provided a couple of benefits. One of which was a license to use a Developer Transition Kit, temporarily made available by Apple.[32][33] This Developer Transition Kit uses the A12Z chip, originally used in the iPad Pro (4th generation), housed inside a Mac Mini case.[1][25]

Two months later this message from Kai

    Hello everyone,

In the past weeks we have been investigating the impact of Apple’s announcement of macOS Big Sur on our products and now have a plan moving forward that will provide compatibility as soon as possible. These investigations have delayed this post slightly... (continues at link)

    https://www.native-instruments.com/...-komplete-kontrol-development-updates.420727/

That's why I said lots of times "NI was unaware". They were so x86 centric than they probably didn't see this coming or people who was aware (Traktor Dj2, iMaschine ... devs) hadn't enough weight in those decisions. Kai has been promoted into lead manager and he was at Maschine before that so Releasing M+ seems the logic step for him and, even I wish it keeps going well in sales, maybe it come to late related to that Apple Silicon transition. Also concerned to what does it could mean for full NI range products. I hope the knowhow from the iPad division plus Izotope join will get the proper development speed (after set the foundation). Then all the radio silence could be just those delays getting that speed but I'm still a bit concerned about the whole strategy and how "sweet spots" and "milestones" will get into place. This June we will be in the middle of that Apple Silicon transition and maybe this 20/4 keynote Apple decides to release some Pro apps. Show the world how this ambitious plan is going well at the cost of showing the flaws of other brands (like NI but also like Serato). It seems Apple is forcing the market into their architecture and it will require some compromises for third party developers. I can imagine Apple ditching some x86 brands like they did with the CD drive back in the day and embrace the subscription model for everything. We will see...

Without these clear, asking about X1 seems way behind or way forward in time but as I answer in the survey "it must be class compliant if you want to keep it compatible with Apple Silicon" or almost code dedicated drivers faster...

It's not trivial question even I could being too optimistic or futuristic... but read again the Apple Silicon transition statements and keep an eye to the coming keynotes. Apple plays with the market and rejects an idea until they release (like putting iPad pro chips on macbooks...)

Apple does a lot of things but one thing everyone knows they’re doing consistently is shrink hardware. They wanna make products lighter, use less energy, and hold a charge for longer. And of course maintain their little monopoly.

I still have my g4 Mac with Traktor 3 and the original Traktor scratch. I remember the transition to the intel. I skipped the g5 knowing it would be eol in 2 years. I also remember software makers having issues so to speak. Things were supposed to be easier too since Windows and Apple are now using basically the same chips.

I have the M1 and noticed no major side effects so far with any of the programs and hardware I use. I think Apple and associates did a good job to point that I didn’t notice anything with my transition to it and probably won’t since it’s purpose is strictly for the heavy lifting of video editing and video/music server duties. My iPad takes care of everything else now simply because it can.

Software makers mottos should be “Let’s make an app for that” for every thing now lol. Djing from an iPad is good now has been for awhile.

I think with Apple silicon, software makers will now be practically making an “App for that” by defacto. Lol

It had been rumored since April 2018 that Apple would start using their own Mac processors in 2020, so I doubt NI was unaware.

NI already started building a universal app to replace Traktor Pro in 2018, it's called Traktor DJ 2. TDJ2 already runs on ARM (iPad), so it should be trivial to compile for Apple Silicon. Of course TDJ2 barely received any updates in two years and has now been put on hold, so we don't know what will happen with that, but NI has said from the beginning that TDJ2 would eventually replace Traktor Pro.

The transition of Apple hardware from Intel to Apple Silicon will take two years, but Rosetta 2 will be around long after that. Apple already removed x86 support with macOS Catalina, they're not going to remove x86_64 support anytime soon. The only reason to rebuild Traktor Pro for Apple Silicon is if you add a new feature that requires faster processing.

I can imagine that NI wants to release a new X1 to draw in new Traktor users and make a decent profit. I just hope it comes with new features and a proper Traktor update.

Maybe there were aware (even I have my own personal info that I can't share, sorry) but that statement from Kai points there were "enough" aware so they were focus on release M+ (after hiatus post lay off) so they needed to redraw roadmap. His words more than mine if you want to read between lines.

Traktor division was rumoured to be sold, how does it fits in your logic?
I said many times it would be a mistake precisely for what you point (universal app foundation and knowhow) but these pendulum movements with the division point in the direction I said.

    https://www.native-instruments.com/...ktor-dj-2-feedback-forum.356441/#post-2083327

Latest it seems the knowledge base gone "read only"...

Pedram come to the forum and stated "New Traktor from the best of both". Do you know who reached him on Instagram due users getting nervous?
In those features are things like Neural AI aka realtime spleeter stems which is running on Djay Pro app nowadays. I understand NI should be interested on that even after the Stem format fail... it could be a second chance. These functions could be wrote on Intel chips but at cost and then in less than 2 years maybe there isn't more macintels. How was with the G5 never released? How many time keep Apple that retrocompatibility?
    Expect less, no more.

The Mac transition to Intel processors was the process of changing the central processing unit(CPU) of Apple Inc.'s line of Mac computers, as well as its server offerings at the time, from PowerPC to Intel x86 processors.

The transition became public knowledge at the 2005 Worldwide Developers Conference(WWDC), when then Apple CEO Steve Jobs made the announcement to transition away from the use of PowerPC microprocessors supplied by Freescale (formerly Motorola) and IBM.[1]

At the time, the transition marked the second time Apple migrated its personal computer product line from one processor instruction set architecture to another. The first was the switch from the Mac's original Motorola 68000 series architecture to the then-new PowerPC platform in 1994.[2]

Apple's initial press release indicated the transition would begin by June 2006, and finish by the end of 2007, but it actually proceeded much more quickly. The first-generation Intel-based Macintoshes were released in January 2006 with Mac OS X 10.4.4 Tiger, and Steve Jobs announced the last models to switch in August 2006, the Mac Pro available immediately and with the Intel Xserve available by October 2006.[3] The Xserve servers were available in December 2006.[4]

Apple released Mac OS X v10.6 "Snow Leopard" on August 28, 2009 as Intel-only, removing support for the PowerPC architecture. It is also the last Mac OS X version that supports PowerPC-based applications,[5] as Mac OS X v10.7 "Lion" dropped support for Rosetta.

Four years and it wasn't to an own technology like this time. It depended on Intel so Apple needed to accommodate timelines. Also the laptop was the focus like now the mobile is but this time the laptop is the deprecated technology. I don't expect hybrids from Apple but they could came (only they know...)

Did you see the curve? It's still not exponential. Let's talk about power consumption...

    Source for those graphics.

Do you see what's happening there? A macbook without fan.

I see a lot of work in you comment if not done properly. That X1 should be class compliant to keep compatibility if released before "New Traktor" release. Maybe these rumours about selling the division were precisely since NI wants to go "just embed" and Traktor Dj 2 (with the associated stagnation from the Pro 3) couldn't fit into the initial strategy but after think it twice (and some bucks from Francisco Partners) maybe they decided to give it a chance and capitalise that knowhow. As I said, my opinion has some wishful thinking, some research and some facts but time will tell how wrong am I this time.

20/4 the next keynote and less than a year end of transition. Let's see...
