x64 compatibility. Anybody from NI listening?

Ok, I know that none of the NI products have been "officially" released by NI for x64 systems. I do not know why - basically it is no problem to release them. They all run (or ran) on x64. It is not a problem of audio engines or audio processing algorithms. I have used B4-II, Akoustik Piano, Elektrik Piano, Absynth 3, FM7, Reaktor 5, even Guitar Rig 2 (though it was a pain in the ass to wait 3 minutes per instance at loading) extensively on x64 throughout the last years. I have fought some extremely painful disputes with NI support which started with a dialogue about what the problem was, and ended in a simple message: "x64? - in this case we do not care for anything". My question to everyone: is the computer world evolving or not?

I have recently installed ElektrikPiano 1.5, Absynth 4, FM 8, also updates to Akoustik Piano and so on. They do not load reliably in any VST host like SX3.1.1 or Reaper on an x64 system. Most times, the system freezes upon selecting these VSTi plug-ins. But sometimes they load and work. I repeat myself: this is not a question of audio processing algorithms, GUIs or whatever.

This is a question of copy protection. FX-MAX had to release a patch to FXT to make the search for plug-ins compatible with NI products "due to the new copy protection of NI". NI has evolved its copy protection algorithms and thereby further restrained the x64 compatibility of its products. This is retrogression. The service center and NI website do not support the old registration mechanism any more, so I cannot switch back to older versions. NI has learned its lessons from Waves. Their plug-ins run fine on x64, but not the copy protection. Blue screen at start-up. Seems to be a perfect way to waste money while the computer technology goes on.

Thank you, NI. This is the worst case of customer-unfriendly behaviour and nasty, unprogressive software since I began to work with computers and audio. I'm not really complaining about not releasing products for x64 "officially" (I do not care about official information about compatibility at all), but making products which worked with x64 less stable on this platform. And the NI programmer SURE KNOW about that. Cubase has always run on x64 even if not officially released for x64. They simply use a copy protection which worked on x64 from the beginning.

I recommend to change all NI products to 8bit in the next version. Maybe this enhances your copy protection further, since there are not much 8bit computers left. Ridiculous.

Do you speak of Komplete 4? I would especially be interested if the two discontinued products Vokator and Spectral Delay work in Vista 64 since i plan to switch as soon as Cubase 4.1 is out?

    Yep Komplete 4.

Vokator and Spektral Delay both work fine.

4.1 may break things we will have to wait and see.

    Cheers

    Hi Andy,

Because of your post, I have bought another boot HD and Vista Business 64 yesterday. Now, the latest NI service center crashes each time I start it, no matter if started in Administrator or user mode, no matter what Flash folder I specify during installation etc.

Service Center shows start screen, the circle in the middle begins to rotate, and shortly after that, it crashes (APPCRASH in WININET.dll, no firewall enabled, no defender enabled etc.). How should I register any plug-ins without NI service center?

Maybe this is part of the problem:

I'd be very interested to hear how you got it going (though using IE7?).

    Hi,

Well it just worked for me!

    I am running Vista Ultimate.

One thing I did have to do was update my modem/router when I moved to vista 64 as the internet seemed to work but I was getting problems with my virus scanner updateing.

    What router/modem are you useing?

    Cheers

    Andy

Fixed. Apparently, it was the driver for my network interface (USB to LAN). Newer version seems to have fixed it.

In the Komplete 4 collection, Battery3 FM8 and Absynth4 hang with no errors, upon running the standalone mode. When sonar scans the VST plugins, it hangs when any of these plugins are encountered. All other Komplete 4 plugins, absynth3, vokator, and spekral work just fine.

I would so VERY much be grateful, if anybody has suggestions about making these three work in the Vista 64 Ultimate environment.

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,

Are all the plugins the most recent versions?

    Cheers
