I'd like to see some XLR inputs with gain control so you can plug mics in and use it like a Presonus Firebox or other similar unit. This way you don't have to buy a separate recording device; you can do it all through GR. Has anyone tried plugging in a mic with an XLR to 1/4" cable? How did it sound?

I run a mic into the RK2 with an XLR->1/4" cable, and it sounds fine. Certainly good enough for live work or recording demos... (for serious studio work I'm sure most folks would want a more suitable preamp.) The only catch is that there's no phantom power, so you can't reach for that nice condensor you probably prefer in the studio.

I just bought the Audio Kontrol 1, which is perfect for the studio in that it includes an XLR w/ 48V phantom, and is also handy live because it has a cool little MIDI control surface on the top. Now if someone would just manufacture a bus-powered MIDI footcontroller suitable for guitarists, I'd retire my RK2. (Come to think of it... the only improvement I'd like in the AK1 is the ability to send phantom power over 7-pin MIDI cables, for the few footcontrollers that accept it.)
