    nice mate. glad that it's working for you. i updated my website with the files and a slightly longish tutorial on how to use the map...

    fwiw, i just got back from australia doing a tour with the 4D and DX. the 4D went through some new modifications thanks to customs and baggage handling - the mic level and eq pots are now recessed into the body... which will be nice after i take it apart to clean up the damage that's floating around on the inside. :) we did find a new bag in perth that fits the 4D, computer, and cables quite nicely.

    the DX works incredibly well with traktor, you'd be surprised. it operates on 5 midi channels... i'll upload the dx map and some more info in a new thread soon.

    4D Bag

    for what it's worth, i found a great bag from korg that fits the 4D like a glove. although i have a flight case for my 4D, it often makes it much too heavy for check in on some flights, so the bag worked as my carry on for the entire time i was in australia. i could fit a DX in the front pouch, but a computer would sit nicely...

    one cool feature of the bag is a top cover that wraps around to protect the face of the mixer. not bad for $110AUD.

    new update with revised effects mapping

    happy new year everyone. here's an update to the 4D midi map for TP123 with a new layout for effects control, and the deletion of the software filter. this was inspired by a guy from oz who's recently joined the 4D family... we have a new template file to go along with it as well as a revise read me that flushed a few typos and clarified some of the basics. it's available for download as an attachment or direct from my website here:

    www.mixarchitekt.com/teknik/mix_architekt-xone4d-tp123-v2_2.zip

    for those interested, a new xone:dx tsi for traktor pro is just about finished. lots to say about that monster... like it operating on 5 midi channels and all sorts of fun to be had with the led's...

    take care - tim

    Dear mixarchitekt

    Thanks for sharing this great TSI, I have been using ACBD ADV for about a year now, great to have something new to try out and figure my own one.

    I am running 1.2.1, the play and cue buttons do not automatically focus my TP to the decks they are assigned to, any thoughts?

    hi sean

    i guess i should clarify this a bit differently than before:

    the cue monitor buttons above the channel faders on the 4D are what you use to change the deck focus.

    the cue button on the deck transport is just for playback cueing, like on a cd player...

    hope this helps - tim

    Dear Tim

    Thanks.

    Another thing, why do i have to go to hard shift mode in order for the loop active to activate. My left endless encoder above the left jogwheel is acting like what you descirbed as the right endless encoder in ur manual?

    ---
    Oh, and the effect select using the top rows of endless encoder is not functioning also.

    there are two types of loop states in traktor pro - set and active, which i use in different ways from one another.

    i use loop set in a spontaneous fashion; having a loop length interval already selected, i'll engage set when i want to quickly grab a section to extend it for a bit or do something freaky with structure.

    with loop active, it's a pre-meditated decision. it's use is related to a saved loop that i want to automatically engage when the track gets to that particular section...

    does that make sense? it's easy to change if you'd like it some other way.

    the left and right endless encoders above the jog wheels both do the same things - tree scroll and browser toggle. that is how they're mapped.

    as for the effects select not working, i realized that i left out something from the previous template and help doc, which is that your 4D needs to be set to MAP 2 for them to work. this makes the top row of encoders transmit CC's, rather than two midi notes.

    to change it, power on your 4D holding the rotary encoder above the left jog wheel. the first thing that will come up will be the midi channel, as communicated by the light pipes. make sure all 4 are lit on the left, which has it in the default state of ch 16. then press the encoder again to get the map select and light pipe options. make sure map 2 is selected (the light pipe second from the left that says "map 2" in under it) and press the encoder again to confirm. you should be good to go after that.

    hope this helps - t

    ah yes, in other news, we're going to be doing a xone clinic in singapore next week at the valentine music centre... tuesday 19th january 2010, with the xone:dx and the rest of the d-series. get in touch if interested. :)

    another update, v2.3

    hello again.

    i received a few more user comments and added them to the midi map, so thanks to milan for the feedback and suggestions.

    we now have seek functions on the left rotary encoder, a slick loop in adjustment, and a master tempo pitch bend, along with a template correction that may have confused a few people.

    a new tsi, template and help doc are attached. enjoy! - t

    struggling on the xone 4d

    Hi Tim

    Nice to meet you here! I've read all your posts about the 4d mixer and thought you are the right person who can give me some advise on my problems. I am still using cdjs with timecode cd and TSP as audio source to 4d, but i do need some nobs for tsp's built-in effects also the loops functions are essentials, I can't fullfilled those things with the default tsi mapping before i met yours. Honestly i am trying to be more friendly to your masterpiece! well what do you think if a person still using cdj as a source and the 4d only for mixing and effects and loops? the mapping of yours can be modified? I have tried to change but it would be truly inferno to me also the cables routing between 4d and the efx1000 killed me several times! Can you share some of yoru tricks or advise to me please?

    Anyone figure out if you can get the midi button switch caps in a different color?

    MIDI
    Round black
    button
    AJ4251

    These are commonly referred to as switch caps. I've looked a bit on mouser and digikey and cannot find ones the same height.

    I'd love to get some different colors as they are hard to see in a dim lit club.

    Hi, first of all I want to thank you for your mappings.
    I started of with yours and then changed it bit by bit according to my djing style, but now I have come up with I slight problem.
    I want to mapp the leds of the cue buttons to come on when sync is enabled, but some of the times cue is activated when the led of its button comes on even if I don´t press the button, I´ve tried with the 2 light pipe configurations, but I still get the problem.
    If I make a new midi mapping from the start it works ok, so something in the mix architekts mapping is making the cue button activate when its led comes on, I looked at it a lot but can´t find the answer.
    Please I would really apreciate it if anyone could help me, because I need to turn sync on and off a lot because of the music style I play and the leds would really help me.
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Edit: I just made a new mapping and I still get the same problem, could it be that I can´t use a button for one function and the led of the same button for another totally different function?

    Please could somebody help me

    you can use the button for one function and the LED for another. I use the 4 LED buttons on the right of my 4D for different indicators within traktor such as a status of the filters being on or off., but the buttons them selves load the first cue point on each deck.

    sorry for the delays; our schedule has been pretty nuts with travel.

    for mileshi, if you go to the controller manager and sort all the midi commands via the I/O column, you can find the led outputs i've assigned to the play/pause buttons which are of the "out" type.

    after deleting those you should be able to map the outputs of your sync state to turn the light pipe led's on and off independent of other actions with a modifier loop that responds to sync state... do you know how to make those already? if not, read on as i've included an example to answer the following question.

    and for richard, the way to extend the function of a button/encoder/rotary is through modifiers. if you want a rotary encoder to toggle between two rotational functions on press, you'll need to set up each function with individual modifier values, and then add a modifier loop to toggle between the states.

    there are some good examples from phil on this forum, rainer's traktor bible, and there are a lot of examples in my tsi, specifically for shift states or the move mode loop...

    here's a quick explanation in the mean time:

    let's say we're going to take a rotary encoder on the 4D and have it toggle between two rotary functions on press. this will be an example different from the current mapping, so bare with me.

    rotary function A is going to adjust loop size
    rotary function B will change move size
    pressing the rotary encoder will toggle between loop or move size adjustment on turn.

    open up the preferences and select the controller manager

    1. add in > cue/loops > loop size
    midi map it to the rotary with a twist
    modifier conditions
    modifier =M1
    value =0
    type of controller = encoder
    interaction mode = relative
    enc mode = 7Fh/01h
    assignment = what ever you want

    2. add in > cue/loops > cue/loop move size
    midi map it to the rotary with a twist
    modifier conditions
    modifier = M1
    value = 1
    type of controller = encoder
    interaction mode = relative
    enc mode = 7Fh/01h
    assignment = what ever you want

    3. add in > modifier > modifier #1
    midi map it to the rotary encoder button with a press
    modifier conditions
    modifier = M1
    value = 0
    type of controller = button
    interaction mode = direct
    button options
    set value to 1

    4. hit the duplicate button to create a second instance of modifier 1
    midi map it to the rotary encoder button with a press
    note the changed modifier conditions
    modifier = M1
    value = 1
    type of controller = button
    interaction mode = direct
    button options
    set value to 0

    you've now created a simple modifier loop, that changes the state of the rotary to switch between loop size and move size.

    what's happening is that the modifier works with a simple "if x then y" logic. in our case it's only two states, but you can do lots of steps... the move mode button on my tsi has 4 states for each movement type, and cycles through them with every press.

    when the modifier value changes from 0 to 1, you gain access to a different control on the same knob, without the previous function changing. each function only "listens" to it's designated modifier, so by changing modifier states you can add additional controls.

    reading phil's explanation of these concepts many moons ago helped me immensely, and i think anyone getting started would benefit form them as well. i think they're stickied some where; or just search for modifiers.

    as a cross reference, the tsi i made for the xone dx has a lot of modifier states going on. it's a bit nuts actually; but there are shift states, press states, etc. which all interact with a range of controls. a simple example is two pitch adjustment sensitivities on the rotaries - one for fine and the other for large jumps on press...

    hope this helps and let me know if there are further questions, etc.

    to anyone in vietnam or china, i'll be heading out there for clinics and gigs at the end of july. australia should see me returning some time in august, japan in september, and uk in early october for bpm. in between i can be found in thailand :)

    update for 1.2.6 and sync/no-sync

    hello hello.

    this is a minor update for 1.2.6, and most importantly the attached zip includes two versions of the tsi - one for sync engaged by default, and the other with sync off.

    the no sync version is handy for dj sets when you're alternating with another person running cd's or vinyl. with sync off, it eliminates the freaky cue jumps that are based around the internal clock that don't coincide with a button press. it does mean you'll have to push and pull your tracks to line up with each other and the other sources, but that's what we all used to do before this crazy program came into our lives...

    the no sync version does not have an active pitch control, just tempo bends. the intention here is that you'll take the un synchronized source, like a cd, and first adjust it's pitch to a whole bpm value, set traktor's clock accordingly, and then drop in on time. once your tracks are running, sync can be engaged and mixing proceeds as normal.

    for a quick (err, long) side note about the whole bpm value on a cdj, let's go back in time for a bit. we recommend setting the cdj's pitch resolution to +/- 6%. once you identify your target bpm, there's a number system that can be applied to find as close to a whole value as possible, relative to the pitch adjustment.

    you take 100 and divide by the root bpm of a track to get the % of adjustment to increase or decrease the tempo by 1 bpm.

    for a quick example, we'll say our target bpm is 128 and the previous dj's track is running around 127.

    100/127 = 0.787

    simplified to the cdj's .02% adjustments, we could call it 0.78 or .80; i always use the lower number for the most part and give it a nudge here and there.

    so if you take the 127 bpm track, set the pitch adjustment to +0.78, you'll be able to be playing at a solid 128 bpm that will be easy to sync with traktor's clock.

    to illustrate how the system works with a larger jump, we'll use a track that's natively at 126 and bring it upto 128.

    100/126 = 0.793

    100/127 = 0.787

    0.793 +0.787 = 1.58

    +1.58 will take your 126 bpm track and lock it to 128 bpm as your target tempo.

    the end results are that you can create a number series 0.78, 1.58, 2.38. 3.02, etc. that will get you in the pocket extremely quick. while i haven't tested this with a time code cd, this was an approach i used for years of life before traktor. it's ridiculous how tight you can get 3 or 4 sources if your tracks are steady.

    the user guide has not been update to reflect both tsi's just yet, but we hope to complete that in the next days.

    and finally, if any one is in ho chi minh city, beijing, or manila, i'll be making the rounds over the next 3 weeks for gigs and clinics. after that we'll be heading to the deep south at the end of august for a tour of brisbane, sydney, and melbourne, possibly nz if it works out. get in touch if you're there, or have any questions.

    sawadee khrap! - tim
