Can you get it to play in sync with ... anything? With audiobus + loopy pressing record on imaschine will screw up the sync with loopy. Recording audio from imaschine to loopy will have the start messed up and it will sound like a drunk dj is playing. The only IAA sequencer i have (that i know of) is garage band and not even there i could get them in sync even through just playback! The metronomes sounded like drunk dj's there too :/
Using MidiBus i couldn't see any midi coming or going to iMaschine but im not sure that MidiBus shows transport info. iMaschine wasn't there at least

To be fair to NI the App is not designed to work with other Apps in the way you describe.

iMaschine is designed as a scratchpad to build an idea when you're on the go. The original intention was for export to Maschine to take this idea forward. Now you can record your sketch into your App of choice. Personally I prefer to solo each track and record them into Audioshare via a decent reverb.

Whilst It's not designed to sync with other Apps it is entirely possible to setup a workflow that will add percussion to an existing track created in another App. If you sync the source material to Loopy or export a loop of the source material to Loopy then you should be able to record iMaschine straight into Loopy, or any other DAW, without using the sequencer on iMaschine. This has the advantage of letting you use your Audiobus effects on each take as required.

The addition of Audiobus has given us access to all the content that we have purchased in our other iOS Apps but it hasn't fundamentally changed what iMaschine is.

Ok, did a bit of testing with LoopyHD and tuns out iMaschine is better than I thought :)

If you manually set the tempo on iMaschine and Loopy to the same setting and start Loopy playing then they will run in sync! The trick is to set pattern length with the pencil tool as you record each track in iMaschine before recording to avoid the count in which does strange things to the timing. You can then just overdub away in time in IMaschine. I presume that this will also work with other DAWs?

As far as garageband is concerned, to make it work you'll have to setup an audiotrack in Garageband, then switch back to iMaschine and hit the Garageband Record Button in the AudioBus Strip on the right. Works perfectly for me, though I didn't have much time to test it yet.

Are you in charge of the iMaschine project at NI? Usually it would say so on the avatar. I just want to make sure if what you say is true or not. If what you say is true (ie you know exactly how discussions goes behind the scene at NI) then i shouldnt use iMaschine and spend time building kits as i would want sync for my projects.

    If only!

No just a user and if I'm honest I hadn't read the release notes of the new version fully when I put the first post above and didn't realise that they had announced that they had implimented sync and IAA! So apologies if I gave any other impression.

I've no idea where they will take iMaschine in the future but they've been pretty clear up to now that iMaschine is a sketch pad for the creation of ideas for Maschine. It would be great to see it get more features but I think if NI are every going to release a fully featured iOS App it'll cost more than iMaschine or have a dark and tempting path to serious IAP's. I'm still slightly surprised they added Audiobus so who knows.....?!

For a brief moment i actually considered getting Maschine Studio (i own mk1 maschine). I like to keep, if possible, all my music stuff in one family :)
If they add more IAP's i would probably buy them. I think i've bought half of them so far but they're only minor (though REALLY good!) samplepacks.
IMaschine is on the top 10 music app list so it must generate some serious cash.
Im already in this state where i start dreaming of adding a controller for it, a synth, a mixer ... NI could do a lot of things. I wouldn't be surprised if they're already planning a complete solution with a controller for ipad. Chargable via usb or something for ultra portability. There's likely enough cpu in an ipad air for making it a serious piece of central studio gear. Im sure you could use all/most of their new S8 powered by the cpu of an ipad air (2?) as well.

"If only!" ... yeah, i got the same feeling :)
Im a 50% musician, 50% dreamer. I love building things in my head when im out with my dog and i wonder if that doesn't give me more pleasure than actually using the stuff! Unfortunately, dreaming is only dreaming. Luckily, i have a job ^_^

Yeah, I've bought about half the packs and the sounds are great.

I used to own Maschine but the way it evolved I felt that I had to choose between Maschine and Live and when Kore died I chose Live.

I really like iMaschine for its simplicity and its sound. I have a lot of more complicated music Apps but often can't be bothered with the whole portable studio thing when I'm on the move. It's been frustrating however not being able to get stuff out of iMaschine easily.

Now Audiobus opens everything back up :)

...but I'd still by a Korg Gaget priced App from NI if they were going to deliver a full on iOS music creating experience?
