What will your ideal (or planned) S8 setup be or involve?

Are you a minimalist who will only want to use the S8 and nothing else? Will you incorporate other controllers and hardware for a more complex setup? Will you use other software with or alongside the S8? Are you a tech-wizard and have some other dastardly plan for this new flagship model?

Currently there is limited information on the S8, but it doesn't mean that we can't speculate and assume certain features and functionalities will be present on NI's latest offering.

There is already a general S8 thread, so we'll leave the opinions of the controller and NI's decided direction to that part of the forum.

    -----

    I'll kick things off:

I think the S8 will be able to streamline some of my current setup, so I will be using it to replace a couple pieces of gear.

    My current setup includes:

    - S4 mk I
    - F1
    - Midi Fighter 3D
    - Ableton Push (used for running Ableton Live simultaneously with Traktor)

My plan is for the S8 to replace the S4 and F1 so that I'll only need to concentrate on 3 pieces of gear. Not to mention that the screens on the S8 will make DJing a lot easier on my neck since I won't have to look up at the laptop and then back down at the gear constantly.

My plan is 2 turntables the S8 and my x1 for the second row of effects. But as you indicated we really don't know much about it yet. I am just speculating. :)

I'm honestly always interested to hear mixes from people using so much gear, any links?

Musically talking, from 1999 ´till now nothing new on the front. Just devices, devices and devices...

    My S8 ideal setup is:

Well packed on its own original packing box, in some shelf of my favourite music store waiting for someone else to buy it

I will probably use the S8 alone. I find it very complete. On accessories May be this time instead of the original Traktor Flight case I got for the S4 I will buy a UDG hard case. I am really exited about this product.

I play digitally. vinyl or live depending on the gig, so for me if it is up to my needs, it will be either just the S8, or a combination of twin SL1210's, mininova synth, a couple of 19" rack fx, voice live touch 2, and later on in year when it's released the electribe.

I want to replace my S4 with the S8. Maybe there are additional sound card capabilities.

My set up is an S4, two F1s, and a Maschine.

My focus is on creating a more organic electronic sound.

I'm having a swap about at the moment (hence fishing around for S8 info lol) but for DJing I am planning to use an E&S isolator, and an Vermona Action Filter 3. They are both fantastic and I should also to be able to utilise them in the band I play in that is experimental Electronica.

I also DJ with a Mininova for the vocoder and to throw over some Moog Type synth sounds, also I would like to also add an Electro Harmonix The Hog II, as we experimented with it earlier this year and sounded great, but the drawback it that it is Mono only, so I would have to decide if it is worth my losing my stereo imaging for the benefit of this effect. This does bring the point up, why don't any controllers have FX loops????

    Imho TS,

F1's are so good, that are never ever enough (not even considering the Insta grat FX mapping).
Depends on how good DJ YOU can be. ;)

    hmmm....

I hope i don't have to carry nothing more than the S8 and my Maschine. Even thou' the S8 got heavy #harhar
Also I would be glad to "get rid" of my F1, if the S8 does the job.

So, this would/should be my setup:

Notebook, S8, Maschine MK2, two foldable Stands and my Cans. Thats it.

And it would be more then awesome, if I could pack those Toys into one big a## case, fold it up and go smashin' :D

PS: Any suggestions for better Stands? I am using those Adam Hall Stands. They are not the best, nor the worst, but they are not foldable :(

Imho, F1 alongside with Maschine and a S8 is everything you will ever need.
Use Instant Gratification mapping in F1, something you won't have in S8.
Then your build will, indeed, be amazing w/ almost unlimited potential if you know how to use it.

Out of curiosity, which music genres do you mix and you felt like needing all these stuff?
    Please don't tell me House.

nope, no House used here :D

Good question. I never thought about in what genre my "set" could be categorized. since you have seemingly unlimited possibilities, you can play anything you want :D
The only thing what makes me sick is non-gridable tunes (30s-70s), but with the warp funcion of ableton, you COULD get gridable stuff, but this can't be done "on the fly" and live on stage....

Maschine on the other Hand gives me the ability to control huge libraries (K9U), and generate swiftly parts i miss in the oiriginal mix (some strings, maybe some horns, synths and drums), plus I can use the maschine as a midi controller, for functions NI didn't plan on the S4 (link - this is pure gold) while Maschine 2.0 works side by side with Traktor (not realy great, hope this will get fixed by NI).
It would be awesome, if i wouldn't need to look into the screen of my laptop, since the S8 has two incredible displays, and the two B/W LCDs of the Maschine provides enough information :D

and yes i also use an Arturia MiniLab keyboard, since playing notes or chorrds on a Maschine is not that awesome :D

maybe a Komplete S-Keyboard would be the solution?
    damn, I need money...

    to keep it simple:
Dubstep, Drum&Bass, Trap, Moombah and that aggressive tune for which I don't know the Genre (link) :D

and you reminded me to create a set and make it availible in the internetz :D
Thanks for burden so much work:)
