Does anyone know or could check if the Z2 works well when connected to an iPad as host?

The latest DJPlayer app has a mention of it in the release notes. It states "improved support for 48khz only sound interfaces, eg. KZ2". Very likely the Audio Interface will work, and that would be expected, since it's stated as Class Compliant.

Now about the Midi - is it again Class Compliant or it uses proprietary driver?

The final question is if it can work in both external and internal mixer mode. I would generally prefer to use it in external mixer mode (deck per physical channel) with the iPad apps.

The Z2 seems a very proper mixer for use with an iPad. The built in USB hub comes especially handy.

For those who care, I did some research - results are positive.

Both Audio&Midi are reported as working with the Z2 on iPad (with the DJPlayer app).

Here is a link to my thread on the DJPlayer forum:
    https://getsatisfaction.com/djplayer/topics/kontrol_z2

Knowing this, i'm much more tempted into the Z2 as opposed to some other controller options (e.g. vci400) I was considering for simultaneous Traktor/Mac & iPad use.

Cool, thanks. I will be looking to do a test myself in a retail shop this week, but since you are willing to try it, it'd be great.

    On the djplayer:
    1. You may need some of the paid (in-app) features. I have them all, so don't know what it really needs.
    2. Boost the volume of the iPad to the max and then connect the Z2 through a camper connection kit USB. Important to boost before connecting an external audio interface!
    3. Launch the app. i assume you're from the mixer screen (middle tab)
    4. Go to deck A (or B), then TRACKS, then More button (right hand top side). This will enter you in the settings menu.
    5. The "Output" tab allows you to configure the outputs. Has to be Full Mode and then USB or Split. The Z2 should be visible as option.
    6. Do a sound check. It should allow you to master out + cue properly.
    7. On the MIDI tab, you can configure a bunch of commands across the tabs/components. There's a MIDI monitor area at the bottom of the screen. It will allow you to see if the mixer is sending proper MIDI commands, prior of associating them to functions.
    8. The Timecode options could also be activated probably, but I don't see this menu without the mixer connected.

Looking at the mapping options of the app, I think the Z2 will cover almost everything the app needs as external controls. Together with the touch screen of the ipad for touch action (e.g. Library browsing & fx control), it has a potential of a great, though minimalistic DJ tool. Keep in mind that Shift makes the buttons send unique messages (refer to Controller Editor), so even with a (relatively) small set of buttons and knobs, the Z2 could do a lot.

Just coming back from a test of the Z2 in a retail shop. No Go, Bummer :(

the audio works, true. the USB channels are routed to the master and to the headphones directly and as expected, so OK.

MIDI - The mixer is not entering Midi mode when connected to the iPad. It requires a computer with NI Controller Manager (and drivers) installed to enter the midi mode (Shift + Settings).

So Z2 is not yet usable for iPad. Not even as a mixer, since the two channel faders require MIDI for the USB mode ...

BTW, I also tested with the Pio DJM-T1 - the Midi works perfect, but no Audio (proprietary drivers).

VCI-400 will be my device of choice. The Z2 would have been my ultimate choice ...
