Is anyone using a either a pci or card bus sound card for a PC that offers zero latency? I want to use B4 live, its the best hammond emulator I have heard but have not found a card I am happy with. The local music store is sick of me returning every one I buy. I have a rackmounted pc and a laptop so either option would work.

I use Soundcards from M-Audio (MIDIMAN). They are really fast and easy to use! I've got a PC on stage (P II 300 with 256 MB RAM, Win98SE) with Delta Audiophile 24/96 with 4 ms Latency and a Studio-PC (P III 700 with 512 MB RAM, Win98SE) with Delta 1010 LT with 2 ms latency. I really can't hear any delay. If the RAM is big enough and the whole "****" from Win98SE is deleted from HD (I'm a fan of "format c:") and if there is only the minimal-Configuration you really need, you will love it!!!

With the newest ASIO drivers and MacOS9.2.2 I've got a letenzy time < 5ms!

With these you can play live or in the Studio.

Whatsever: every latency < 10ms is cool.

    ?

I use a cheapie SB Live

I use a cheapie SB Live, which works great with FM7, B4, etc.
What you really need is AISO drivers to get very low latency (IE, playable live). Creative never made these drivers for the SB live, but they are available for free 3rd party here:

I get approx 2.5 ms latency with their drivers, and highly recommend them. More than adaquate for live performance!

Since you use your PC live, you would prefere a soundcard with multiple out's maybe ?

Terratec DMX 6FIRE offers a workable latency at 2 ms (96 kHz) but you need a fast CPU for that kind of operation. If you only use the B4, there should be no problems at all, but if you planning to sequense other VSTi's, you proberly need to set latency to about 4 ms.

The DMX 6FIRE have 3 stereo outputs, if you need to add outboard effects or mixing to different VSTi's.

The most stable soundcards, with most stable low latency driver are RME cards, who have the ASIO drivers build in the soundcard, not as an application in you PC. This gives you down to 1 ms stable operation. The best thing about a RME card like the Hammerfall MULTIFACE, is you can use the breakoutbox with all the connection connected to either a PCI card, or a PCMCIA card if you decide to buy a laptop in the future.
